Why Is Kuminga Not Playing

Jonathan Kuminga is a late scratch for the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night when they take on the Orlando Magic at the Kia Center. Apparently, the 21-year-old is currently dealing with a knee injury, which initially had him listed as questionable for Wednesday’s contest.

Dubs head coach Steve Kerr confirmed less than a couple of hours before tip-off that Kuminga will not be available as the four-time NBA champion shot-caller shed some light on his young star’s health.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Magic game, Coach Kerr seemed to imply that Kuminga’s injury is not a cause for concern. At this point, it sounds like nothing more than a typical night off for the hard-working forward:

“Tendinitis in his knee. Hopefully giving him the night and tomorrow off (has him ready for Friday in Charlotte),” Kerr said, via Warriors reporter Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

As Kerr said, Kuminga is expected to return to the lineup when the Warriors battle the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.

Every game from here on out is going to be crucial for Golden State as they fight for positioning in the West. Currently, they are clinging on to the 10th and final Play-In spot in the conference with a 37-34 record. They are, however, just one game ahead of the surging Houston Rockets, who have amassed nine straight wins.

Kuminga has been one of the Warriors’ most important players this season and the last thing Golden State needs is an injury to one of their stars during this critical stretch.
