HGTV design star Galey Alix is known for always wearing a baseball cap, brim pulled down over her face and blond ponytail pulled through the back. It’s a way for the DIY’er, who began as an Instagram and TikTok creator, to keep the focus on what she creates and not on how she looks. That’s why a recent Instagram post, featuring Galey in a series of Barbie-inspired glam looks, is such a big deal for her longtime fans.
The photos (which you can see here) were taken for a Business Insider feature that delves into the life story of the Florida-based Goldman Sachs finance exec and weekend home-makeover warrior who stars in the HGTV show Home in a Heartbeat, which is still pending renewal for season 2.

Posing with a drill and a hammer, Galey’s photo shoot wardrobe included a pinkish-tan pleated leather mini skirt paired with a feather-trimmed off-shoulder pale pink top, a one-shoulder hot pink fringe dress, and a sparkly black bell-bottom jumpsuit—a fancier version of her go-to fashion choice for her home-makeover reveals.
She still wears a hat in every photo, but her everyday cap is replaced with a range of elegant, extra-wide brim hats—and a sparkly black baseball cap in one outfit for good measure.

Instagram fans went wild over the rare glam moment from the star. “Beautiful as always, you should glam up more! Well done, and spoken like a true-to-yourself live Barbie!” wrote one. Others chimed in:
- “MY GIRLLLLLL OMG OMG OMG FIX IT BARBIE IS HERE!!! 😍”
- “OMG THE HATS!!! THE OUTFITS!!! THE POWER TOOLS!! THE STORY!!!!!!!! 😍🔥 you truly are the picture of ‘dreams do come true’ sooooo proud of you!! 🥹❤️ “
- “😍🔥🔥🔥 best version of Barbie.”
- “Correction! She is a STAR! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️” — a reference to the Business Insider headline that said Galey “wants” to be an HGTV star.
Always one to be open about her past low points and struggles with mental health, Galey accompanied the Instagram post with words of encouragement for others:
“I don’t want to contribute to the very thing that aided in my fall,” she wrote. “So I share it all. I also want anyone falling to know that however you land, you’re not broken. You’re just bruised. Know that every time you’re brought to your knees, it’s a gift because you’re given a chance to stand up different this time. For me, I stood back up with a hammer, a hat & hyper aware of how vulnerable we humans are. Handle all with care.”
