When taking any type of fitness class, comfort and functionality should be the main goals of your outfit. Different sports have different requirements and we’ve compiled a few of the best tips for your pole fitness wardrobe.
Shoes
Do: Feel free to wear indoor rubber-soled shoes or just bare feet. As a beginner you need to focus on learning all of the basic skills and your grippy rubber-soled shoes or bare feet will drastically help.
Don’t: We strongly urge you not to wear socks in your Pole Fitness class. You need to control your step and grip the floor; socks will be too slippery and you will put yourself at risk of injury. In a Pole Fitness class where the focus is on strength, coordination, and endurance at Tantra Fitness, we forbid wearing high heels of any kind. Only in our Exotic Dance Program where you explore the sensual (yet still physically demanding) style of Pole Dance will you have the option to wear heels. We also suggest that you do not bring outdoor shoes into the studio. No one likes stepping in dirt or pebbles.

Once you are ready to add heels into the mix in Exotic Dance, we suggest Pleaser Shoes.
Tops and Bottoms
Do: When you are a beginner in the world of pole, (at Tantra Fitness this would be called Pole 101-202) it’s recommended that you wear longer pants that cover the back of the knee, along with a t-shirt or tank top until you get used to the pole. The only exception is in our spin pole 101 and 202 classes where we recommend you wear shorts for leg grip on the pole. For more advanced polers (at Tantra this would be Pole 303 – Pole 606) you will need your skin to stick to the pole so wear shorts, tank-tops and/or sport’s bras. It’s also a good idea to wear clothing that is wicking because it will absorb your sweat.
Don’t: We suggest that you do not wear jeans or clothing that will restrict your movement. It’s also best to avoid baggy clothing because you need to be able to see where your legs are while working on alignment and posture.

Tantra Fitness is a huge fan of Bad Kitty for pole apparel (and we sell it at all of our studios).
Other little tidbits that might be helpful:
- You may want to bring a layer to wear while you are warming up and cooling down.
- Jewelry (like necklaces and rings) may get in your way when you learning this sport.
- It always helps to have a hair elastic on hand.
By wearing the right attire to pole class, your experience will be enhanced. You will have fun. You will get sweaty. You will fall in love with the sport. So, being comfortable and prepared will only add to your journey.
