Who Owns Stx Beef

The STX Beef Co. on Corpus Christi’s northwest side has a new leader.

The company’s board of directors on Thursday announced the appointment of Terry Maul as Chief Executive Officer.

Maul replaces Dwight Packard, who had served as interim CEO during the last year, a period that followed the bankruptcy of its previous owner.

“It is an honor to join STX Beef Company as the new CEO and to drive the business forward into 2020 and beyond,” Maul said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing the meaningful progress made toward our goal of providing high-quality beef, and working with current and new customers to build great relationships and successful futures.”

Company officials described Maul as an industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience and “a proven leader with a track record of inspiring teams, growing business, and building strong industry partnerships.”

According to his LinkedIn account, Maul has worked the last four years as vice president of business development for HK USA Enterprises in Weatherford. Before that, he was national director of fed beef sales for JBS USA, a Greeley, Colorado beef and pork processor.

JBS USA is the American subsidiary of JBS S.A., the world’s largest meat processing company based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Maul’s appointment took effect immediately.

The Kane family controlled what was once known as Kane Beef since the 1940s. That changed in 2013, when the plant, at 9001 Leopard St., was sold to Texas ranchers and cattlemen, calling themselves Sam Kane Beef Processors Inc.

The business changed hands again in 2015 to the Fernandez Group, which is made up of a South American businessman and his sons.

Sam Kane Beef Processors filed bankruptcy in January 2019, and STX Beef Co. bought its assets a month later. STX Beef officials say they have invested more than $10 million in plant improvements and hired a workforce of more than 700 employees.

Packard will remain with the company through the end of March to help in the transition.

“We are excited to move forward with Terry as our permanent CEO as we drive the company forward, accelerate growth, and create long-term value,” company president Ryan Connelly said.
