Where Was Marley And Me Filmed

If you are a fan of the 2008 comedy-drama film Marley & Me, starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, you might be interested to know that some of the scenes were shot in beautiful Galway.

The film is based on the memoir of journalist John Grogan, who adopted Marley as a puppy when he and his wife Jenny moved to Florida. The film follows their life as they deal with Marley’s antics, their careers, their children and their challenges. The film also features a romantic subplot where John and Jenny go on a honeymoon to Ireland, where they fall in love with the country and its culture.

The Ireland scenes were filmed in various locations in the Connemara region of Galway which is known for its stunning landscapes, rugged mountains, lakes, bogs and coastline. During filming, Wilson, Aniston and crew all stayed in the luxury Ballynahinch Castle hotel. Some of the places that were used for the filming include:

– Inagh Valley: A scenic valley that runs between the Twelve Bens and Maumturk mountain ranges. The valley offers panoramic views of the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests. The film crew used this location to shoot some of the driving scenes where John and Jenny explore the countryside.

– Lough Na Fooey: A glacial lake that lies between the Maumturk and Partry mountains. The lake has a distinctive shape and is surrounded by green hills and rocky outcrops. The film crew used this location to shoot some of the scenes where John and Jenny run into sheep blocking the road. The sheep used were from the local Joyce Country Sheepdogs farm.

– Glebe Stone Circle: A prehistoric monument that consists of a circle of standing stones near the village of Cong. The stone circle dates back to the Bronze Age and is believed to have been used for ritual purposes. The film crew used this location to shoot some of the scenes where John and Jenny visit a historical site and marvel at its ancient origins.

– Ballymagibbon Cairn: A Neolithic burial mound that lies on top of a hill near Cong. The cairn is one of the largest in Ireland and offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The film crew used this location to shoot some of the scenes where John and Jenny climb up to the cairn and admire the scenery.

– Roundstone: A picturesque fishing village that lies on the coast of Connemara. The village has a charming harbour, colourful houses, pubs, shops and restaurants. The film crew used this location to shoot some of the scenes where John and Jenny stroll around the village and mingle with the locals.

These locations are not only beautiful but also rich in history, culture and nature. They showcase some of the best aspects of Ireland and its people. If you are planning to visit Galway, you might want to add these places to your itinerary and follow in the footsteps of Marley & Me.
