Why Is Keon Coleman Out

Florida State’s offense was shorthanded in a big way with star wide receivers Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman out of the lineup. Despite the lack of two future NFL playmakers, the Seminoles were able to respond from an early deficit to leave Pittsburgh with a 24-7 victory.

Following the game, head coach Mike Norvell provided an update on Coleman’s status. The redshirt junior apparently suffered an injury last weekend that prevented him from suiting up against the Panthers.

“He’s [Keon] good. It’s just unfortunate, in the last game there was an injury that kept him out from tonight,” Norvell said. “We’re very hopeful that he’ll be back extremely soon so looking forward to how it progresses this week.”

“Johnny [Wilson] being out, that was something that we’re just continuing to progress on. Progress on with both those guys,” Norvell added.

Outside of Wilson and Coleman, redshirt junior Deuce Spann and true freshman Hykeem Williams were unavailable on Saturday afternoon. This was the second consecutive game that Williams has missed while Spann’s absence came as a surprise after he returned kicks against Wake Forest.

“Hykeem Williams is getting better, Deuce Spann is continuing to work to get better,” Norvell said.

“We had a laundry list of guys who were dealing with issues there,” Norvell continued. “They’re doing everything in their power to get back on the field but we’re not going to put them out there in a position unless they can go out there and play to the best of their ability. Excited to see how this next week goes and we’ll see exactly where it is as we progress towards it.”

Regardless of the loss of four wide receivers on the two-deep depth chart, quarterback Jordan Travis completed 22/36 passes for a season-high 360 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions. He connected with eight different wide receivers, including Ja’Khi Douglas, who finished with a career-high six catches for 115 yards.

Florida State returns to action against Miami on Saturday, November 11.
