What The Tooth Fairy Does With The Teeth

Today is Tooth Fairy Day! The Tooth Fairy has her own day two times a year (she’s so nice we celebrate her twice!) and there are some fun things you should know about her.

1. When a child looses their teeth, a golden bubble with that child’s name appears in the tooth fairy’s castle. She takes all the bubbles with her when she collects the teeth, and puts the tooth in the child’s bubble so it can float back to her castle and she can fly on to the next lost tooth. When the Tooth Fairy starts her nightly visits, she carries all the bubbles on strings like big bouquet of balloons. By the time the night is over, the last bubble containing the last tooth helps her float home.

2. The Tooth Fairy’s house is made of the teeth she collects. It is a huge, white castle with towers and a sparkling moat. The Tooth Fairy is very particular about the teeth she collects and uses for her castle, so if the child’s tooth has a cavity or dark spot, she will throw the bad tooth into the mouth of a big cave where it will be ground up into fairy dust.

3. The Tooth Fairy is very small and very quiet. She can float through closed windows and walls with her magic powers. If a child begins to stir, or wake up, while she is replacing their tooth with money, she puts them back to sleep with the sprinkling of her fairy dust.

4. The Tooth Fairy works very closely with Dream Fairies, who banish nightmares and make sure all children have sweet dreams. It is the biggest honor in the land for a Dream Fairy to be made into a Tooth Fairy, and, before she retires, the Tooth Fairy chooses the Dream Fairy who has banished the most bad dreams to take her place.

5. The Tooth Fairy makes her money with her magic wand, so don’t be surprised if a little glitter shows up on the money she leaves you.

6. The Tooth Fairy leaves an average of $3.70 per tooth, a 42% increase from 2011. Kid’s in the North East earn about $4.10 per tooth. A lucky 10% of children will find more than $5.00 under their pillows for each tooth, and an even luckier 6% will find $20.00 or more. Sometimes, however, the Tooth Fairy realizes that she has gotten a little out of control with her spending, so about 36% of kids will receive a dollar or less per tooth.
