Who Is August Booth

Even after we had his name – August Wayne Booth – I think we all still wondered who The Stranger or Motorcycle Man truly was. Because he was fully aware of the curse, because he lugged around a typewriter, and because he was an ace at putting together a book, I thought that he might be one of the Grimm brothers. Wrong. When the episode began with flashbacks to a newly-glittery Rumpelstiltskin and his son, Baelfire, I fell for it – I was certain that August was really Bae. Wrong again. I worried a bit when Gold was searching August’s room and we saw the carved donkey but I reassured myself that Bae’s experience with the donkey and his father’s subsequent actions were a defining point in the relationship. I should have known better because Melissa had warned me that the spoilers indicated that August was really Pinocchio. Gold wanted to believe August was Bae and so did I.

I am having trouble with August as Pinocchio. Why? I think part of it is due to the fact that I have trouble seeing a former wooden puppet as a love interest for Emma – lots of snarky thoughts raced through my mind when the truth became apparent. Snarky thoughts aside, how did Pinocchio escape the curse? Was Pinocchio originally created with wood from the same sort of magical tree that protected Emma? Did he create Henry’s book? What exactly did he do to the book when he “borrowed” it? Where’s he been hiding all of this time? And, now that Pinocchio is out of the running, who the heck is Dr. Whale??? Will the real Baelfire make his way to Storybrooke?

Although I’m disappointed with August’s true identity, I did love seeing more of Rumpel’s story – he’s one character that never disappoints. We now know why he created the curse and why he seemed to have a particular hatred of the fairies. It doesn’t seem quite right that he would bury the dagger in the woods, not to mention leave it there after Graham spotted him digging – but I like that better than the thought of him burying bodies.

Mary Margaret and David continue to disappoint me, particularly Mary Margaret’s comment that “something wants to keep us apart.” Okay, granted there is a curse but she doesn’t believe in that. David let her down – it’s that simple. When a guy I’m dating does something hurtful, I don’t blame external forces, I blame him.

As far as Sidney and Regina, okay so he’s going to take the fall, but do the people of Storybrooke really think there’s nothing creepy about a mayor who has skeleton keys to everyone’s homes???
