“Is an understatement to say it’s devastating to know that this young girl’s life was taken so tragically. She was 12 years old. I mean, it’s, it’s, it’s, it’s very jarring,” District Six Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda said.

Cabello Havrda is chair of the city’s Public Safety Committee. She said there’s nothing specific in the works but believes change could be coming.

“It’s absolutely something that we can look at in a future agenda. It’s under the Public Safety’s purview, of course, to talk about it, and try to figure out what we can do to curb this kind of behavior,” Cabello Havrda said.

As they work to address it Rebecca’s brothers work to come to terms with her death.

“It’s sad how you took my little sister—from second clip,” Gonzalez said.

Police are still working to make an arrest in Rebecca’s death. Officials said information is critical so if you know something say something.
