International students who do not wish to apply to a degree-granting program at UC Berkeley are welcome to apply for concurrent enrollment. UC Berkeley Extension has a dedicated International Student Services team that provides visa, housing, health and wellness, and community-building support to visiting international students.

International students have two options to attend courses at UC Berkeley and UC Berkeley Extension via concurrent enrollment.

1. Apply for one of our Berkeley Global Programs: Through these 1-2 semester long programs, international students take courses at UC Berkeley. Students have access to academic support and are part of a cohort of other international students. Some programs may offer a Certificate and an opportunity for Optional Practical Training (OPT). More information on this option can be found through the link above.
2. Individual Concurrent Enrollment program: This option requires students to make arrangements independently to study with a specific campus department. They must first contact and be officially invited by a UC Berkeley campus department to study in the Concurrent Enrollment program, generally for one or two semesters. Not every department accepts Concurrent Enrollment students. Once an invitation has been secured, apply via the Concurrent Enrollment Application (see top of page). Student Visa Status

Once admitted to the Concurrent Enrollment program, international students will be invited to apply for their F/J visa documents. Students must provide a valid passport and proof of funding for their tuition and fees and living expenses ($11,250/semester) for the duration of their studies.

To maintain valid F/J student visa status while in the Concurrent Enrollment Program and/or to continue studies for an additional term(s), students must enroll full time (usually a minimum of 12 semester units per term) and be making satisfactory progress as defined by the inviting department. Students are limited to 2 semesters in the individual Concurrent Enrollment program and must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5. For more information, contact International Student Services.

International Health Insurance Requirement

Health insurance is mandatory if you are participating in any of our full-time international programs. We will enroll you into a comprehensive health insurance plan for the duration of your studies. View health insurance information.
