Kelsey Grammer has explained why there is a key change in his character Frasier in the show’s reboot – and it’s to do with his wardrobe.
Frasier returned in October after Paramount+ picked up the show for a much-anticipated full-series revival.

It marks the first time we’ve seen Grammer’s psychiatrist-turned-radio host Dr Frasier Crane since the Cheers spin-off ended back in 2004.
While fans have been enjoying the reboot, there has been a lot of discussion online about how Frasier’s wardrobe has become more relaxed, a reference to the trainers and jeans he has been sporting in the new series.

Grammer himself has defended his character’s fashion change in an interview with Variety, saying: “I did think it was a natural progression for him, but also natural for me.”
The reason for the casual footwear in particular is pretty simple – for comfort while filming. Grammer said: “People didn’t talk about it much during the old iteration of the show. But my feet were always an issue. And I had a couple of podiatrists years ago notice on the show, asking ‘what’s going on with your feet?’

“I have a gait issue, it’s just because I have really, really bad ankles. It’s OK, but it’s a little easier to wear those shoes than it is to wear a bunch of custom made brogues and all that.”
Grammer is enjoying this exciting reboot as much as the fans are and feels that this new version – involving new stars such as Only Fools and Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst – has longevity.

“I think we should go to another 100 episodes at least,” he said in the same interview. “There’s enough groundwork laid between these human beings; they are wonderful characters. I want to see where they go. And I want to see what happens with Frasier.”
