And this game could easily be a close one. After beginning the season 3-5, Las Vegas parted ways with head coach Josh McDaniels. Under interim head coach Antonio Pierce — who had a nine-year NFL career as a linebacker for the Washington Commanders and New York Giants — the Raiders have gone 2-1. They’ll be hosting a Chiefs team that began the season 6-1 before going 1-2 over the last three weeks.

Coming off an MVP season in 2022, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes has struggled to find the right combination among his (mostly) young wide receivers to complement superstar tight end Travis Kelce — and currently leads the league in interception rate at 3.3%. In Week 8, Las Vegas benched veteran quarterback Jimmy Garroppolo in favor of rookie Aidan O’Connell — who has thrown six interceptions to go along with three touchdowns, but also managed a fourth-quarter game-winning drive against the New York Jets in Week 10.

So for both of these teams, defense has been their 2023 calling card. There, the Chiefs have a definite edge — ranking third in points allowed per game at 16.4 — while the Raiders rank 12th at 20.5.
