Why Does Wynonna Judd Wear Gloves

The inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards brought together some of the biggest and brightest stars in country music to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

The event turned out to a big night for Wynonna Judd, who not only served as one of the highly anticipated performers, she was also honored with the inaugural Country Champion award.

The Ashland, Kentucky native received the special honor in recognition of her decades-long career as a solo artist and as one-half of the legendary duo, The Judds, with her late mother Naomi Judd, as well as for her efforts in philanthropy and activism.

Ahead of the ceremony, the country music superstar would make her way along the red carpet for a round or two of photos, all while both photographers and fans did their best to get her attention.

Never one to skimp and play it safe when it comes to her fashion choices, Judd would again deliver in an all-black ensemble that was a mix of leather and lace.

While Judd, 59, opted to steer away from color for her outfit, she did go with the layered look, which has almost become a trademark look for her.

On this night she had a layered scarf set that fell from her neckline all the way down to the middle of her stomach.

The Why Not Me singer also layered her ensemble with a vest and shirt underneath her stylized leather coat and matching pants that hugged her figure from the knees on up, while flaring out from the knees on down.

Judd through in a number of stylish touches that included fingerless lace gloves, and her fiery red locks flowing long and straight well past the middle of her back with major bangs out front.

After strutting her stuff as a solo artist for a period of time, Judd called over her husband of just over 11 years, Cactus Moser, for another round of pictures.

In a perfect match with his wife, the musician looked cool in black leather pants and a black blazer over a white dress shirt, and black tie.

He also donned a pair of black sneakers and also had an added cool touch by wearing yellow lens glasses.

Once inside the famed Grand Ole Opry, Judd began making her way to her seat and ended up stopping to say hello to Blake Shelton, which was documented with a photo.

She would end up sitting next to singer-songwriter Kelsea Ballerini, and the two proceeded to have a grand old time together chatting and laughing.

The Love Me Like You Mean It star stunned in a black sequin minidress, that glistened under the harsh light of the event, and matching heels.

One more than one occasion, Judd and Ballerini could be seen walking arm-in-arm around the Grand Old Opry, stopping to talk to other stars along the way.

During the ceremony, Toby Keith received the inaugural Country Icon award from Blake Shelton, who’s a fellow Oklahoman.

A couple hours before the show Judd took to her Instagram page to give her 297,000 fans and followers a glimpse at her hair stylist getting her locks all ready for the big event.

There’s also some clips of the To Be Loved By You star working the red carpet for the various journalists and photographers.

During her acclaimed career as a solo artist and as a member of The Judds with her mother, Judd scored 19 number one singles.

At the star-studded affair, she took the stage to perform a medley of her greatest hits to loud cheers in the crowd.

Following her set, she accepted the inaugural Country Champion Award and gave a touching speech about her late mother.

She recalled finding out her mother passed away by suicide on April 30 following a long battle with her mental health — which was just 19 days after their final performance together.

‘I went to her house and she died there, but we followed the ambulance anyway to the hospital where she was pronounced dead,’ she said, recalling the tragic memory.

‘I walked into the room and I held her in my arms and I kissed her on the forehead, shut her eyes and said, “I love you, Mom”,’ she continued before detailing how she went to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame the following day because ‘that’s how much we love music’.

‘I walked out of that room, went home, got up the next morning and showed up at the Country Music Hall of Fame to be inducted into the Hall of Fame,’ she continued.

‘You know why? Because that’s how much we love music,’ she said. ‘Regardless of what has happened to me, I show up and I show out.’

During her acceptance speech, she also recalled how her career came to be because of her love for country music.

‘I graduated high school in 1982 and [in] 1983 got a record deal with RCA records,’ she revealed. ‘I got on a silver eagle bus with my mama and did her hair every night for 10 years for free.’

‘I started there. Ten years later, she would have to retire and I would go on to make country music “herstory”.’
