Melissa Holmes Career
Holmes serves as the co-anchor of Daybreak at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, NY, and a multi-media journalist focusing on celebrating Western New York and its “Great Kids.” She started her journalism career after graduating from college at Sky News in London. She, later on, left the station and joined WTVH-5 in Syracuse and WSYR-9 where she served as a producer, anchor, and reporter. In 2005, she left the two stations and joined WIVB-TV in Buffalo where she served as a reporter as well as an anchor.
Since she started her journalism career, she has managed to enclose quite a number of events and stories that have hit the headlines all across the states and beyond. Some of the stories include the Surprise October Storm, the search for Ralph “Bucky” Phillips, the Crash of Flight 3407, the arrest and conviction of the Bikepath Rapist, and the “Snowvember” Storm of 2014.

Holmes has also managed to win several awards including a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award in 2018 for her report “Under the Helmet”. She also won the New York State Associated Press awards and was honored with the Female News Anchor of the Year Award by Medaille College in 2013. “Under the Helmet” also earned her first place for Public Service with the New York State Associated Press awards.
In 2016, she released a special report on two young leukemia patients who fell in love leading Holmes to win three New York State Emmy awards. Whenever she is not working, she enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends. She also loves to try out new restaurants, hike, and attend dozens of charitable events each year.
