Which Is The Best Dishoom In London

In today’s post, I am going to tell you all about one of my top favorite restaurants in all of London – Dishoom!

The food scene in London is absolutely next level. The best part about it is that you can try every type of international cuisine and a great majority of the time, it’s authentic and delicious. That’s the beauty of London being such a draw to people from so many different cultures from around the world!

Indian food though, particularly, is one of the most popular cuisines in the whole of the UK. British people love a good curry and I absolutely have to agree! The rich flavors and gorgeous spices completely awaken your tastebuds. It’s just so good.

This Place Comes Highly Recommended!

I always ask for restaurant recommendations before going to a new city, and I cannot tell you how many people told me that I NEEDED to go to Dishoom.

Well, guess what? Now I’m one of those people who is sitting here telling you that YOU NEED TO GO TO DISHOOM!

Dishoom is loved by so many, as it has some of the most flavorful and authentic food around. It pays tribute to Irani Cafes and the food of all Bombay The recipes are prepared to perfection and the overall feel of Dishoom is genuinely very positive. It was such a warm and beautiful atmosphere that I would happily go to again and again!

There are actually 8 Dishoom locations around the UK, but specifically 5 in London:

London Dishoom Locations:

We actually loved Dishoom that we went twice – to the Carnaby and Covent Garden locations. We loved both but I think Carnaby was actually my favorite!

Whichever one you choose to go to – make a reservation! Especially if you are trying to go on a weekend! Make it a few days (or weeks) in advance just to secure a spot!

Ordering at Dishoom

Dishoom is a full journey so enjoy every step of the way. The menu can be daunting for a first-timer but our waiter was so nice and took the time to thoroughly explain it all to us. He drew all over the paper menu so we knew his top recommendations. He even asked us what spice level we were comfortable with!

The deal with Dishoom is that you ideally want to order a bunch of dishes and share them with your party. That way you can sample as many as possible! So make sure you are dining with a collaborative bunch!

What We Ate At Dishoom, Carnaby

We went to Dishoom, Carnaby on Easter Sunday after exploring The Columbia Flower Market all morning, and I will tell you – it’s an Easter we will never forget. I loved our experience at Dishoom Carnaby – from the ambiance to the staff to the food, it 100% hooked me on this restaurant.

I’ll go through everything we ordered with you because, let’s be honest, food pictures are the best part of any blog post:

I started my meal with a Passionfruit Sharbat with vodka and it had a KICK!

Steven got a Dishoom India Pale Ale:

Paneer Tikka – Paneer is a structured but soft cheese that absorbs flavors really well. This dish was marinated with herbs and served with fresh peppers and was really tasty!

Salli Boti – This was one of the specials of Dishoom Carnaby! It was an extremely flavorful (and delicious!) braised lamb dish.

House Black Daal – Another signature dish! Daal is a spiced lentil stew and is very warm and comforting. Great to eat plain or to dip naan in!

Chicken Berry Britannia – This was a chicken and rice dish cooked with a wide array of spices and cranberries. It was cooked and served in a pot and absolutely filled to the brim!

Chicken Ruby* – This was the absolute winner out of everything we got. It was a curry dish similar to butter chicken, but arguably even better! It was tender chicken in a red makhani sauce.

Ruby Chicken is particularly good paired with a side of basmati rice. (not pictured)

*The second time we went to Dishoom, we ordered two Chicken Rubys so we could have some for lunch the following day… and let me tell you, that was definitely one of our better ideas!

Raita – This yogurt dipping sauce is a MUST whenever I eat Indian food, and Dishoom makes it well. It is nice and cool to counteract the spice and it has cut-up cucumber and onion.

Plain & Garlic Naan and Steamed Basmati Rice – Naan and Rice are a MUST, no explanation necessary!

At the end of the meal, they also gave us complimentary Pistachio Popsicles which were delicious and so creamy! They were not super sweet and had a very subtle flavor. They were such a nice, cool treat to have after eating so much savory and spicy food.

We were absolutely FILLED TO THE BRIM and had leftovers for an entire lunch the following day. But thank God, because I was not ready for this meal to be over!! It was truly one of the best meals I have ever had.

ROUND 2 – What We Ate at Dishoom, Covent Garden

I’ll spare you from the duplicates (because trust me, there were plenty) but I also wanted to show you what we got during our second round at Dishoom! We were so excited to be back, I could not leave London without getting it one more time because our first time was so incredible!

Dishoom House Chaat – This was surprising in the absolute best way. It was an appetizer that contained hot and cold elements as well as sweet and tangy. And let me tell you, they worked so well together. It’s warm fried sweet potato base with cool yogurt and pomegranate on top, as well as shreds of beet, carrot, and radish. There is a green chutney and a tamarind drizzle which gives it a little kick. The flavors work so well together, I couldn’t stop eating it!

Spicy Lamb Chops – These are marinated overnight and full of flavor. I truthfully just wish there was more meat on the bone because they were gone too soon!

Garlic Naan & Cheese Naan – Okay this is sort of a duplicate but this time we tried the cheese naan and it was lovely! Melted cheese on Naan is a beautiful thing.

Jackfruit Biryani – I will be honest and say I preferred the chicken version, but Steven preferred the Jackfruit version! They were both really good, I mean it’s a rice dish with gorgeous herbs, sultanas, and barberries. Of course it’s good!

Lastly, the Dishoom Chicken Tikka – This chicken was so soft it just broke apart with a fork. You definitely get the hints of ginger and turmeric – two of my favorite spices!

We Love Dishoom!

So there you have it – two trips to Dishoom later and I loved it just as much the second time around! The day I get back to London, I know I will be making time to go here once again because Dishoom has become one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I truly hope that you have the chance to check it out on your next visit, too!

Whether you’re missing Dishoom or you aren’t able to make it there quite yet (and happen to be a whiz in the kitchen!, Dishoom does have a beautiful heartfelt cookbook that would be the perfect addition to anyone’s home. I definitely am going to need to add it to my collection when I get back from my travels!

After all that… I’m starving! So I’m going to go get a snack. I hope you enjoyed reading all about Dishoom, and I’ll see you in the next post!
