Why Girls Love the Thrill of Up and Down Roads

Have you ever noticed that girls have a knack for finding excitement in the most unexpected places? The other day, while running errands with my three daughters, I stumbled upon a little secret that made me realize just how much they love the thrill of “up and down” roads.

As we were driving, I noticed the usual complaints from my youngest daughter, Charlotte. She longed for a lunch outing, dreaming of pizza and doughnuts. But as a responsible parent, I explained that we had food at home and going out for lunch would be costly. Little did I know, a surprise awaited us just around the corner.

In search of a shortcut, I decided to take Clearview Avenue. To my surprise, every time we drove down this road, my daughters would squeal with delight. They affectionately referred to it as “the bumpy road.” And trust me, it lived up to its name.

Clearview Avenue was a rollercoaster ride of sharp drops and steep hills, enough to make anyone’s stomach churn with excitement. The faster we went, the more thrilling the ride became. You could even see marks on the road where cars had bottomed out, a testament to the adrenaline rush this road provided.

Now, I must admit, I’m a cautious driver, especially when it comes to my precious cargo. So, even though I adhered to the speed limit, the road still managed to bring smiles and giggles to everyone in the car.

Little did I know, on this particular day, we would encounter another memorable moment on our bumpy road adventure. As we followed a noisy blue car, I watched in shock as garbage flew out of the driver’s window, littering the beautiful woods that surrounded us. It was a deliberate act of disrespect for our environment.

My anger boiled, and for a moment, I contemplated stopping and confronting the driver. But with my girls in the car, I couldn’t take that risk. However, I made a mental note of where they lived, planning to address their behavior later.

You see, our home is a picturesque place, with winding roads, scenic creeks, and breathtaking mountains. Each time I drive through the Main Street, it brings a smile to my face. How could someone show such disregard for the beauty around them?

Maybe these individuals needed a reminder that their actions were not acceptable. I considered bringing their discarded garbage back to their home, but the safety of my daughters prevailed. However, soon enough, I will find myself on Clearview Avenue alone, and perhaps then, I will return their trash to their doorstep.

It’s a mystery to me why anyone believes it’s okay to discard what they no longer want into spaces that belong to everyone. As a mother and an advocate for preserving the beauty of our surroundings, I hope that we can all learn the importance of respecting our environment and teaching our children to cherish and protect the places we call home.
