Debunking the Myth: Does Going Down on a Girl Change Your Beard Color?

Every now and then, TikTok brings us new trends and claims that leave us scratching our heads. Recently, some men on the platform have been boasting about their sexual escapades without explicitly saying so. One such claim gaining popularity is that going down on women can supposedly lighten the color of their beards. While it may sound intriguing, is there any truth to this bizarre notion?

The Bleaching Effect

The theory behind this claim stems from the fact that vaginal fluid is acidic. The vagina naturally secretes lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide as part of its healthy functioning. Consequently, some women have noticed that the areas of their underwear that come into contact with the vulva become gradually “bleached” over time. TikTok users then extended this theory to facial hair, with videos showing men with supposedly lighter beards.

A Personal Experience

One TikTok user, @maguiresharpe, went viral after sharing a video about his allegedly lightened beard. According to him, he learned about this possibility from another TikTok video that is no longer available. Despite the lack of evidence, he claims to have noticed a change in his beard’s shade over the past few months. He attributes this change to his girlfriend, whom he goes down on around twice a week.

Let There Be Light

Examining his pictures closely, it’s worth noting that the lighting could be a significant factor. Natural light, as seen in the second picture, illuminates the hue of his beard, making it appear lighter. Conversely, the hair on the other side of his face, away from the window, appears darker. This suggests that lighting plays a key role in the perceived color change.

The Reality Check

While the idea might be intriguing, the claim lacks scientific evidence. Yes, prolonged exposure to vaginal fluid can potentially bleach underwear, but for similar effects on a beard, one would have to consistently coat it in vaginal fluid for days at a time. Most people would at least rinse their beard with water afterward, making it highly unlikely that vaginal fluid alone could lighten the hair.

Furthermore, if vaginal fluid were acidic enough to bleach hair, wouldn’t pubic hair closest to the vaginal opening show signs of lightening? In reality, pubic hair tends to be darker than the hair on the head and remains relatively uniform in color.

Possible Explanations

Beard color variation is not necessarily linked to oral sex. There are multiple factors that could contribute to color changes in facial hair. Genetics, exposure to the sun, and fluctuations in medication can all play a role. As we enter the spring season, it’s not uncommon for men to notice changes in their beards due to recent sun exposure.

In the end, it is likely that many men participating in this trend simply want to boast about their sexual exploits. So, to those individuals, we say congratulations, but can we shift our attention to the real mystery—why are men’s beards often red?
