Some of the cast members of the iconic 2004 movie Mean Girls recently reunited for a Walmart advertisement, but one familiar face was notably missing. Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert appeared in the commercial, leading up to the announcement of the company’s Black Friday deals. However, Rachel McAdams, who famously portrayed Regina George in Mean Girls, was absent.
In a recent interview with Variety, McAdams explained why she opted out of the commercial. “I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest,” she revealed. “Working on a movie sounded awesome, but commercials just didn’t feel like my thing. Plus, I wasn’t aware that everyone else was doing it. I would always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang out with my Plastics, but I only found out later.”

McAdams also shed light on why she won’t be appearing in the upcoming reboot of Mean Girls, based on the Broadway musical. “Tina [Fey] and I brainstormed a few ideas, but it was challenging to make it all come together in the end,” McAdams shared. “I was open to whatever Tina wanted to do. I believe the direction it has taken will be fantastic, and I can’t wait to see it.”
After the commercial aired, Lacey Chabert, who played Gretchen Wieners in the original film, expressed her joy at reprising her character. “It was so much fun to step back into Gretchen’s shoes and spend the whole day with Lindsay and Amanda,” she said. “It felt like a full-circle moment. We’re all moms now, and nearly 20 years have passed. It was an amazing experience.”
Looking ahead to the film’s 20th anniversary, Chabert expressed her enthusiasm for a possible sequel. However, she was grateful for the opportunity to film the commercial together, even if nothing more comes of it. “I’m thankful that we had that experience and got a chance to do that,” she added.

In Mean Girls, Lohan portrayed Cady Heron, a high school student who befriends a group of popular classmates: Gretchen Wieners (Chabert), Karen Smith (Seyfried), and Regina George (McAdams). As Cady gets closer to “The Plastics,” she attempts to bring down Regina’s social status.
The Walmart advertisement cleverly incorporated Mean Girls references. Chabert reprised her role as Gretchen, picking up her daughter from school, mimicking a scene from the film where Regina picks up Cady to go shopping. Lohan also made a reference to “The Plastics” rule about wearing pink on Wednesdays. Seyfried, on the other hand, delivered her notorious weather report from the movie.
While fans will have to wait for a Mean Girls sequel or reboot, the Walmart advertisement served as a delightful reunion for the cast, reminding us of the iconic movie that has left a lasting impact on popular culture.
