The Inspiring Journey of Jessica Faith: From Channel 11 Weather Girl to D.C.

Three years ago, Jessica Faith embarked on a new chapter in her life as she married Renaldo Pearson and joined WPXI-TV’s meteorology team in Pittsburgh. Little did she know that her decision would make her the first Black woman meteorologist in Pittsburgh TV history.

Faith recognizes the significance of her role as a Black woman in the field of science and television news. She understands the importance of being a role model and paving the way for future generations. Breaking barriers is an honor, but she believes it should have happened much sooner. She hopes that her achievements will create opportunities for many more talented individuals to follow in her footsteps.

Now, as Faith prepares for her next adventure, she recently announced on social media that she will be joining WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., a top 10 market. She describes this opportunity as a humbling experience and believes that it has come at the right time in her career.

Faith, a native of Clanton, Alabama, holds degrees in communications from Alabama A&M University and broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Before WPXI, she gained experience working at KLTV in Tyler, Texas, and WAFF-TV in Huntsville, Alabama.

When WPXI approached her about the opportunity to work in Pittsburgh, Faith knew very little about the city. However, her apprehension quickly turned into awe when she visited Pittsburgh and fell in love with its charm, especially the breathtaking view of Downtown through the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

As she settled into her new home, Faith made it a priority to understand Pittsburgh’s culture and what mattered most to its residents. She wanted her weather forecasts to be practical and tailored to the needs of the viewers. Faith felt the need to earn Pittsburgh’s love and acceptance, and in the process, she discovered a deep affection for the city.

Living in Pittsburgh also gave Faith the opportunity to experience something she hadn’t before: heavy snowfalls. She fondly recalls her enthusiasm during the winter of 2020, as she experienced her first-ever white Christmas. Her genuine excitement about the snow made her unique as a meteorologist in the market.

Faith’s time at WPXI coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting her and her husband to reevaluate their priorities. With family being their top priority, they decided it was time to be closer to loved ones. Pearson’s roots in the Washington, D.C., area played a significant role in their decision.

As Faith prepares to bid farewell to Pittsburgh, she reflects on the things she will miss the most—its rivers, attending sporting events, and the ubiquitous black and gold pride. Above all, she cherishes the memories of the kind-hearted people she encountered along the way, appreciating the continuation of Southern hospitality in the North.

Working alongside her talented colleagues at WPXI pushed Faith to be her best. She credits them for preparing her for a market like D.C. and praises the management’s commitment to diversity, which was evident in their decision to hire her.

Faith wants the viewers of WPXI to know that she always kept them in mind when delivering her forecasts. Their importance and their needs were her priority. She hopes that Pittsburgh doesn’t see her time there as just a pit stop for aspiring broadcast journalists. She genuinely loves the city and its residents, and they will always hold a special place in her heart.

As Jessica Faith embarks on her new journey in Washington, D.C., she carries with her the experiences and lessons learned in Pittsburgh. She remains committed to her mission of being a role model and breaking barriers, inspiring others to follow their dreams.
