Busi Vilakazi, one of Brenda’s former students, was raped and murdered ten years before the events of the show. Her body was discovered half-buried in the woods. Following an investigation led by Detective Charlie Vuyo, a man named Benjamin Jiba was convicted based on Brenda’s witness statement and a prosecution presented by Leonard Mahlati, Vuyo’s brother. Tragically, just after Jiba was imprisoned, he took his own life as everyone, including his family, refused to believe in his innocence.

While Busi’s case seemed closed with Jiba’s death, Brenda’s suicide reignites Detective Vuyo’s interest. The gruesome nature of the case had a lasting impact on Brenda, and it was ultimately the final case of Vuyo’s career, as he was shot in the leg during the investigation.

This web of deceit, driven by politics, leads to a clear conclusion: Benjamin Jiba was not the killer. But then, who else could it be? During the initial investigation, Detective Vuyo had his suspicions about the Minister’s driver. However, Leonard’s manipulation steered the case towards Jiba. Eyewitnesses revealed that the unnamed driver had frequent contact with Busi and was seen with her on the day of her murder.
Nevertheless, the Minister had unwavering trust in his driver and compelled Leonard to keep him out of the investigation. Consequently, Leonard framed Jiba and concealed the truth. In the pursuit of personal gain, he later rose to the position of a Judge. It is highly likely that the Minister’s driver was the actual perpetrator of Busi’s rape and murder, while the Minister shielded him. It remains unclear whether the driver holds something over the Minister or manipulates him to maintain his immunity.
