Honoring the Lives of West Point Community Members

Four recent deaths in the West Point community, as well as the victims of the tragic Capital Gazette Newspaper shooting in Annapolis, Maryland, will be commemorated at a special mass in the Archbishop Stepinac chapel.

Remembering the Fallen

The mass, organized by the White Plains Catholic high school in collaboration with the Sons of American Legion, will take place on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the school’s chapel. It will pay tribute to Jordan Crockett from the Class of 2014, Richard Glover from the Class of 2015, Peter Zhu from the Class of 2019, and Christopher Morgan from the Class of 2020.

Morgan, a 22-year-old native of West Orange, New Jersey, tragically lost his life on June 6. He was among the cadets involved in a transport vehicle accident while en route to a summer training exercise. The vehicle overturned on a hilly, dirt road between West Point’s Camp Buckner and Camp Natural Bridge.

Zhu’s untimely death due to a skiing accident garnered national attention. In a unique request, his parents petitioned the Westchester Supreme Court to allow the retrieval of his sperm while he was on life support. Zhu, 21 years old at the time of the accident, belonged to a Chinese family that highly valued passing on the family name through male heirs. Eventually, the court granted permission for the procedure.

Glover, who passed away on June 20, and Crockett, who passed away on January 17, were both involved in football during their time at West Point. Details surrounding Glover’s recent passing have not been publicly disclosed. Crockett, a California native and Army captain, unexpectedly died at Fort Leonard Wood in Saint Robert, Missouri. He was only 28 years old. Football was an important part of Crockett’s life while he attended West Point, as mentioned in his obituary.
