Recipe For Disaster Walkthrough
Now, we’re going to take you to a step-by-step guide on completing this quest.
Another Cook’s Quest
The cook in Lumbridge is bustling with excitement as he readies himself for a grand party. He shares with you a fascinating piece of Lumbridge history: a century ago, during a crucial gathering in the town, his ancestor Franizzard Van Lumbcook prepared an extraordinary feast. The outcome? An offer for the position of head cook, a title passed down through generations.
Now, every decade, Lumbridge hosts this momentous event, and today marks the tenth occurrence. Faced with the challenge of replicating his ancestor’s brilliance, the cook seeks your assistance in gathering the required ingredients. To secure an invitation to The Feast, you must embark on a subquest to obtain these items. All the ingredients, except the rotten tomato, can conveniently be acquired from the Grand Exchange. For the rotten tomato, head over to Pelters’ Veg Stall located behind the Varrock General Store, or make your way to the bank chest at the Emir’s Arena in Al Kharid where you can find one in a barrel.
Note: make sure you eye of newt, glass of greenman’s ale, rotten tomato, and a dirty blast (combine a fruit blast with ashes). With these in hand, you’ll be ready to contribute to the culinary masterpiece and secure your spot at The Feast.
Prepare to step through the doors into the dining room, where the feast is about to unfold. As you enter, you’ll find the Lumbridge council seated around the table, a diverse group ready for the grand event:
- A Mountain Dwarf from White Wolf Mountain
- Osman from Al Kharid
- The goblin generals from Goblin Village
- Pirate Pete from Braindeath Island
- The Lumbridge Guide
- Evil Dave from Edgeville
- Skrach Uglogwee from the Feldip Hills
- Sir Amik Varze from Falador
- Awowogei from Ape Atoll
- Duke HoracioAris from Varrock
However, just as you’re about to take your place, a curious event unfolds. The Duke is captivated by a strange box and steps away to investigate, while Osman is unexpectedly whisked away by Evil Bob. Seizing the moment, you enter the room, only to witness the unexpected arrival of the Culinaromancer, who crashes the party with a barrage of magical spells targeting everyone at the dining table.
Thankfully, just as chaos ensues, Aris makes a timely entrance. Using her magic, she freezes everyone in time, leaving only you and herself unaffected. The fate of the feast now rests on your shoulders as you work with Aris to unravel the mysteries and challenges that lie ahead.
Aris reveals the history of the Culinaromancer, a threat from a century ago, trapped by the Duke’s ancestor. The current head cook’s magical feast accidentally frees him. Aris freezes time, holding him at bay but tasks you to save the council. After the feast, you can enter the dormant dining hall and must feed each council member their favorite food to break the spell. Subquests can be done in any order. Each completion awards 1 quest point, Culinaromancer’s Chest access, and additional rewards. Aris updates you on the remaining members to rescue. Your mission is vital to prevent a magical paradox from destroying reality.
At this point, you’ll have to free all council members. At a glance, here are the subquests you need to do, as well as what you need to complete each one.
Freeing The Mountain Dwarf
Head to Falador and approach any of the three barmaids in the Rising Sun Inn near the west bank. Inquire about dwarves and ale, and she’ll offer the secret recipe for Asgoldian ale for 200 coins. With an activated ring of charos, charm her using the persuade option. Purchase four (4) Asgarnian ales from her or get them for free at The Toad and Chicken pub in Burthorpe. Add a gold coin to each ale as per the secret recipe.
Travel to the tunnel under White Wolf Mountain (use Camelot teleport or a Games Necklace). In the bar area, speak to the old Dwarf. He’ll mention the Rising Sun Inn but won’t make a Dwarven rock cake for you.
Use the Asgoldian ales on Rohak, then quickly give them to him to avoid sobriety. He agrees to make a dwarven rock cake for 100 gold. Provide him with your bucket of milk, egg, flour, and bowl of water. He places the hot cake on the table beside you. Note: Picking up the cake without gloves causes damage; normal gloves prevent damage but the cake still needs to cool.
Equip ice gloves to instantly cool the cake. If forgotten, pick it up with any gloves and bring it to a bank. Drop it, then pick it up again with ice gloves on. Without ice gloves, kill an icefiend with the rock cake in your inventory or wait hours for it to cool in the bank. Icefiends are on Ice Mountain, west of the Edgeville Monastery.
Once the rock cake is cooled, return to Lumbridge Castle and use it on the frozen dwarf.
Freeing The Goblin Generals
Begin the quest by examining the frozen goblin generals in the Lumbridge Castle dining room.
Next, head to Goblin Village and enter the building just south of the generals. Climb down the ladder to find Mudknuckles, a goblin cook. He’ll ask for charcoal to complete a cooking recipe he overheard from dwarves. Provide him with the charcoal, and a comical cutscene will unfold, surviving the explosion miraculously.

Mudknuckles, claiming success, reveals a dilemma: the generals are quarreling over the food. To cater to their tastes, he needs oranges that aren’t orange, maggots that aren’t bland, and bread that isn’t crunchy. Prepare the ingredients:
- Dyed orange: Apply dye to orange slices.
- Spicy maggots: Use spice on fishing bait.
- Soggy bread: Drench bread with a bucket of water.
Present all three items to Mudknuckles to receive the Slop of Compromise. Offer it to the goblin generals in Lumbridge to conclude this quest segment.
Freeing Pirate Pete
To initiate the quest, examine Pirate Pete. Proceed to talk to the Cook in the adjacent room, who will instruct you to obtain ground cod, breadcrumbs, ground crab meat, and ground kelp. For crab meat and kelp, consult Murphy in Port Khazard. Ensure you ask all relevant questions about the ingredients.
For the first set of items:
- Ground cod: Use a pestle and mortar on raw cod.
- Breadcrumbs: Use a knife on bread.
It’s advised to gather extra kelp and crab meat, especially if your Cooking level is low, to account for potential fishcake burning.
Under the Sea:
Items required: A pestle and mortar, a fishbowl (empty), a needle, 3 bronze wires, weight less than 27 kg, at least 5 free inventory spaces, and a weapon (optional but recommended).
- Visit Murphy in Port Khazard to transform your fishbowl into a diving apparatus. Wear it and ask to go diving with a weight below 27 kg. Free up inventory space and refrain from bringing a Cat.
- Underwater, retrieve kelp from tall plants. Speak to Nung near a crab pen and acquire five mudskipper hides by killing mudskippers in the cave. Give Nung the hides, needle, and three bronze wires to enter the crab pen.
- Inside the pen, slay a crab, collect its meat, and grind both the crab meat and kelp with a pestle and mortar. Gather extra in case of burning.
- Return to the Cook, combine the ingredients, and cook them to obtain a fishcake. Use the fishcake (do not eat it!) on Pirate Pete in the dining room for your reward.
Freeing The Lumbridge Guide
Commence the quest by inspecting the frozen Lumbridge Guide. Collect the necessary items from the Culinaromancer’s Chest if you don’t already have them, then seek out Wizard Traiborn in the Wizards’ Tower (Code: dis), accessible by ascending one flight of stairs.
Undergo a short quiz by correctly identifying NPCs from the required quests. Answer three questions accurately to get the egg enchanted.
Some NPCs:
- Reldo
- Velorina
- Ali Morrisane
- Islwyn
- Unferth
- Gertrude
- Hetty
- Pirate Pete
- King Lathas
- Professor Gronigen
For the milk, respond to general RuneScape questions. Answer three correctly to enchant the milk.
Some Questions:
- Combat level of Goblins near Lumbridge: 2
- Defence level requirement for Mystic Hat: 20
- Glass vial is to 33 as a glass orb is to: 46
- A gold ring is to 5 as a holy symbol is to: 16
- GP needed to bribe a guard at Al Kharid toll gate before trust: 10
- Location with howling and buzzing sounds: Catherby
- Items needed for glass: Sand, bucket, soda ash, glassblowing pipe
- Location west of Pollnivneach: Bandit Camp
- Calculation involving Fire Strike, Wind Strike, and Earth Wave runes: 10
- River Salve direction: North to south
- What doesn’t lie between Morytania and Asgarnia: Keep Le Faye
- Cake ingredients: Flour, eggs, milk
- Closest tower to Crafting Guild: Dark Wizards’ Tower
- Nearest guild to Fishing Platform: Legends
You’ll then need to pass a memory test. You’ll be shown 3 groups of ten items from 5 groups and must answer questions about them. Answer three correctly to get enchanted flour.
Some Questions:
- Which item began with the letter ‘m’: Mind Talisman
- Which item was NOT shown: Trout
- How many weapons were shown: Three (Maple Longbow, Magic Shortbow, Black Longsword)
- How many types of rune were there: Two (Fire Rune, Chaos Rune)
- Which items were amongst those shown: Book of balance, Magic Logs, Pike
Use any ingredient on the cake tin to prepare the cake automatically. Cook the tin on the Lumbridge Castle range to create the cake. Give the cake to the frozen Lumbridge Guide to complete the quest.
Freeing Evil Dave
To kick off the quest, examine Evil Dave in the Lumbridge Castle Dining Room. Head to Edgeville and visit Evil Dave’s mother’s house west of the bank. Speak to her and ask either question, then descend through the trapdoor to find Evil Dave immersed in summoning hellrats.
Ask him about what he ate and insist he must reveal it “because the magic requires it.” He’ll disclose that it was a perfectly spicy evil stew, similar to his mother’s. Return to Doris, Evil Dave’s mother, who explains that the hellrats stole all the spices.
Since you can’t fight Hell-Rat Behemoths until completing the subquest, you must hunt hellrats. When your cat catches a hellrat, you’ll obtain a brown, red, yellow, or orange spice with 1 to 4 doses. After your cat catches 7 hellrats, it becomes a hellcat.
To create the perfect stew for Evil Dave, which contains all four spices with different random values (1-3), follow these steps:
- Focus on determining one spice potency at a time.
- Start with (1) dose of one color in a stew and give it to Evil Dave.
- If he says, “one of the spices is correct, the rest are incorrect,” note down the correct amount.
- If he says, “none of them are right,” try again with two doses of spice. If he likes it, the correct amount for that spice is two. If not, it’s three.
Repeat this process until you figure out one value for each of the four spices.
Pay attention when adding spices to the stew. Quickly using a spice again before it updates may result in the spice not being used.
Ensure you check the game chatbox to confirm the spice has been added for each usage.
Once you determine the correct values for all four spices, make the final stew and give it to Evil Dave. He’ll confirm its correctness without consuming the entire stew. Return to Lumbridge without eating the stew, or you’ll need to gather the spices again.
Excess spices can be dropped or kept in the bank for personal use, and they can be decanted to 4-dose items like potions.
Freeing Skrach Uglogwee
Commence the quest by inspecting Skrach Uglogwee. Head to the Feldip Hills using the fairy ring code “aks” and talk to Rantz. He’ll express his desire to travel to Karamja for a potion but first asks you to meet him southeast of his cave. Walk directly southeast toward the transportation symbol on your map, talk to Rantz, and witness him kicking over a tree, tasking you with making it into a boat. Use your axe on the tree twice to craft a boat. Speak to Rantz again, and he’ll shoot an arrow to a tree on Karamja. Engage in dialogue once more, and he’ll instruct you to cook a chompy for good luck.

If you lack raw chompies, kill a chompy bird or two before leaving. If you didn’t bring logs, chop down a normal tree in the area to obtain one log.
To travel to Karamja:
- If you used the fairy ring tele (Karamja is “ckr”), head west toward the coastline and then north until you find a tree with an arrow in it. If needed, there are dead trees to the west coastline.
- If you’ve traveled to Brimhaven, move south past the general store and hug the west coastline.
- The tree with the arrow is northwest of Tai Bwo Wannai village, just north of Banisoch, marked with a dungeon icon.
Make a fire next to the tree, and then use your iron spit on a chompy and cook it. If successful, Rantz’s kids will take the boat to you and transport you back.
Rantz will then instruct you to make a balloon toad for bait to catch the Jubbly bird. Fill your bellows in the swamp, then use them on a toad. Mine the same number of rocks as you have toads to the west of the swamp or near Rantz’s cave to obtain a “rock.” With the rock and ball of wool in your inventory, inflate the bellows with swamp gas again, then use them on your already inflated toad to create a balloon toad. Drop the balloon toad south of Rantz’s cave or east of the gnome glider.
Now, wait for the Jubbly bird (level 9) to appear. If it doesn’t, get another balloon toad. When it appears, kill it with your ogre bow, pluck it, take the meat, and cook it on Rantz’s ogre spit near his cave. Return to Lumbridge Castle, right-click, and carefully use the cooked jubbly on Skrach Uglogwee. If you eat it, you’ll need to get another one. Consider killing and cooking multiple jubbly birds to account for potential burning or accidental consumption.
Freeing Sir Amik Varze
Initiate the quest by inspecting Sir Amik Varze. Ensure the Legends’ Quest has been started before proceeding. Ask the Cook about making a brulee supreme, and he’ll guide you on combining milk, cream, cornflour, vanilla pod from the Kharazi Jungle, an egg from the Evil Chicken, and cinnamon (made by crushing a dramen branch). The concoction must then be flambéed using a dragon.
Note: The ingredients can be gathered in any order, but they must be combined in the specified order. Speak to the Cook about freeing Sir Amik before inquiring about the Evil Chicken’s whereabouts.
- Use the bucket of milk on the pot of cream to mix them.
- Add a pot of cornflour to the milky mixture. If you lack cornflour, grind raw sweetcorn in a windmill and fill a pot with it.
- Add a vanilla pod to the cornflour mixture. Find vanilla pods in the southwest section of the Kharazi Jungle, near the coastline. You need Radimus notes if Legends’ Quest is incomplete.
- Evil Chicken and Black Dragon:
- Talk to the Wise Old Man in Draynor Village about the Evil Chicken. Choose the dialogue option to inquire about strange beasts.
- Enter Zanaris and prepare for combat: bring an Anti-dragon shield, gear for killing the Evil Chicken (level 159 or 170), and prepare to face a level 227 black dragon.
- Equip the anti-dragon shield and use a raw chicken on the Evil Chicken shrine north of the fairy ring in Lumbridge.
- Kill one black dragon, use the anti-dragon shield to protect against dragonfire, and collect the dragon token it drops.
- Enter the northern cave, kill the Evil Chicken, and collect the egg it drops.
Caution: If you die before leaving the lair after killing the Evil Chicken, all items dropped on death will disappear.
Back at a bank, add the egg to the brulee, grind the dramen branch into cinnamon, and add it as well. A game message should indicate that it now needs flambéing.
Put on ice gloves, rub the dragon token, and K’klik will appear (be in Lumbridge or Zanaris). Wish for it to flambé your brulee. Wearing ice gloves prevents you from dying (Antifire potion + Anti-dragon shield works too). Travel back to Lumbridge Castle and give the brulee to Sir Amik Varze to protect him.
Freeing King Awowogei
To start the quest, inspect Awowogei at the table, and then travel to Ape Atoll. Throughout your stay at Ape Atoll, it’s recommended to have the following items: M’speak amulet, Karamjan monkey greegree (or other greegrees), antipoison, and food.
Greegrees (if not obtained during Monkey Madness I):
Note: Skip this section if you already have the ninja, zombie, and gorilla greegrees.
- Purchase three monkey talismans from Tutab on Ape Atoll for 1,000 coins each or obtain them for free from the Monkey Child.
- Kill a Monkey Guard near the prayer altar on Ape Atoll for its bones. Safespot them using Ranged or Magic.
- Kill a Monkey Archer (ninja monkey) north of the bank icon on Ape Atoll. Safespot or use Protect from Missiles.
- Obtain Zombie monkey bones from the Ape Atoll dungeon. Equip any greegree you have to avoid aggression from monsters on your way to Zooknock.
- Speak to Zooknock at the end of the Ape Atoll Dungeon with the bones and talismans. Repeat the process three times to get all three greegrees.
Awowogei’s Palace:
- Equip one of your greegrees and the M’speak amulet.
- Purchase monkey nuts and grab a normal banana if you don’t have them.
- Go to Awowogei’s palace on Ape Atoll by talking to the Elder Guard to let you in (inspect Awowogei at the table first).
- Talk to Awowogei about his favourite food. He’ll mention three monkeys in the temple.
- Speak to the three monkeys in the temple, telling them about the surprise party. They’ll mention the need for a stuffed snake.
- Kill a level 84 Big Snake in the cave below Crash Island. Use Protect from Melee.
- Return to Ape Atoll and get a red banana by wielding a gorilla greegree, going to the red banana tree, and using a rope on it.
- Slice the red banana to get sliced red banana.
- Pick tchiki monkey nuts by going to the Ape Atoll Agility Course, using the code “clr” at the fairy ring, and grinding the nuts into paste.
- Cook the snake by stuffing it with sliced red banana and tchiki nut paste.
- Go back to Lumbridge Castle with the M’speak amulet equipped.
- Use the stuffed snake on Awowogei. If you eat it, you’ll need to get another one.
Make sure to follow these steps carefully to complete the quest successfully.
Once done, you’ll have successfully, saved all council members. The last step in Recipe for Disaster is beating the Culinaromancer itself.
Fighting The Culinaromancer
Upon successfully freeing all the council members, a pivotal cutscene unfolds, with Aris invoking the phrase “Tempus procedit!” to restart time. The Culinaromancer hastily retreats through the portal, returning to his dimension, prepared to wreak more havoc. Aris directs you to follow suit and venture through the portal to confront and ultimately defeat the Culinaromancer.
In this strange dimension, the Culinaromancer stands as a formidable adversary, impervious to defeat until the first five bosses have been overcome. A peculiar feature of this dimension is the absence of prayer use, adding an extra layer of challenge to the encounters. Notably, you can strategically leave and replenish your supplies after facing each boss without losing your progress in the ongoing battle.
The bosses are as follows:
- Agrith-Na-Na (Level 146): Uses melee up close and Fire Blast at a distance. Kill him with any attack style and bring food.
- Flambeed (Level 149): Ice gloves are needed to wield a weapon. He drops cakes.
- Karamel: Fight her up close with a lower-level Fire spell. Use Fire Bolt with Chaos gauntlets.
- Dessourt: Melee doesn’t work well on him, so use Iban Blast or Ranged.
- Gelatinnoth Mother: Weak to Air, Water, Earth, and Fire spells during different phases. Mage or range her for best results.
- Culinaromancer (Level 75): Hits high but has practically no Defence. Kill him with any attack style and bring food.
Upon successfully defeating the Culinaromancer, you’ll witness the symbolic dropping of a cake, representing your triumphant completion of the quest. For players who manage to defeat the Culinaromancer with a full inventory, a rewarding lamp will be waiting at their feet upon their return to Lumbridge Castle.
Once defeated, watch all the events that unfold and the quest is done with!
