Jim had an incredible first half, totaling 28 home runs (T2nd in the N.L. with FLA’s Mike Lowell) and 67 RBI prior to the All-Star break. He batted .303 (93-for-307) in the season’s second half…Was named to the N.L. All-Star team for the second time in his career and drew start in CF, going 1-for-2. He also took part in the home run hitting contest during the All-Star week festivities…Was bothered for much of the season’s second half by a right shoulder injury that he suffered in mid-June at MIL and later reaggravated during the All-Star Home Run contest…Finished the year with 39 homers (T7th in N.L.), the second-highest total of his career. He finished fourth in the N.L. in slugging (.617) and was fifth in OPS (1.002)…His 12 outfield assists ranked second among CF’s and he led N.L. centerfielders with an average of 2.95 putouts per nine innings, earning his sixth career Gold Glove Award…Following the season, Jim underwent a successful surgical procedure on his left shoulder to remedy discomfort that he began experiencing during the course of his off-season workout program.
