Simple Fingerless Gloves Free Crochet Pattern

Sitting in an office all day, my hands tend to get ridiculously cold. Even if it’s my home office, I find myself chilled, despite the fact that I control the temperature. But, the one thing I can’t stand is trying to type or use my phone with gloves on.

Seriously, even the gloves with touchscreen fingertips just don’t work for me. I just straight-up prefer a nice pair of fingerless gloves.

I have several that are made from fabric and they’re certainly nice. But I wanted some that I had made, something full of texture and life that I could wear anytime.

So I came up with this simple (quick and easy) fingerless glove crochet pattern and I decided to share!

What Yarn Should You Use for a Fingerless Gloves?

For this particular project, I wanted something soft and flexible to allow my hands to move with no stiffness, but still be warm. So, I selected Lion Brand Heartland Yarn in the Badlands colorway, a really stunning dark red with a fantastic texture all its own.

But this project can be worked with any worsted weight yarn or similar. Below are some options that work well for making fingerless gloves.

  • Swish Worsted Yarn
  • Preciosa Tonal Worsted Yarn
  • Wool of the Andes Worsted Yarn

What Size Does This Fingerless Mitten Crochet Pattern Fit?

As written, this pattern is sized to fit an average hand and arm. The yarn I selected has a fantastic stretch and, when paired with this simple stitch, gives the gloves a delightful feel when worn. This is a one size fits all pattern as a result, however, the pattern can be adjusted up or down by reducing or increasing the initial chain in sets of two.

How Much Yarn Will I Need to Make Fingerless Gloves?

I used about half of a 6 oz skeins of 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn (size 4) in solid dark blue colorway. I do generally crochet in a medium-tension, so this is what I would consider an average amount of yarn usage for this project.

How Do You Crochet Fingerless Mittens?

This particular pattern is crocheted as two rectangle panels, each joined at the end to make a glove. You can modify the pattern to add a lacy edge, if desired, but the simple single crochet edging makes me happy with it’s nice clean lines.

ASSEMBLY OF GLOVES

Fold glove panel in half, bringing the sides of the crocheted rows together. Cast on at last stitch completed. Sl St to join the two sides for 11 stitches. Skip 6 stitches to create the thumb hole. This can be done by fastening-off the yarn, then casting on again on the 7th stitch, or alternatively you can slip stitch through the stitches on one side of the glove, leaving the other un-attached. There are drawbacks and reasons to chose each method, but I chose to fasten-off and cast back on.

Once you have reached the 7th stitch (after skipping the 6 stitches for the thumb hole), continue to Sl St join the two sides of the glove for the remainder of the side.
