How To Buy Disposable Gloves

Typical fields of application for disposable gloves

The areas of application for disposable gloves are extremely varied. Wherever the sensitive skin on the hands can be irritated by cleaning agents, chemicals and the like, or where infectious agents can get onto the skin, disposable gloves provide safety.

Choice of material for disposable gloves

Depending on how, where and by whom the disposable gloves are to be used, different materials are recommended. As a rule, disposable gloves are made of vinyl, nitrile, latex or PE. All materials have specific advantages and disadvantages in connection with the respective application. Regardless of the material, you should always pay attention to the designated standards to find out exactly which hazardous substances the respective work glove protects against.

Latex gloves have long been among the disposable gloves of choice. And for good reason. The latex makes the gloves thick, hard-wearing, very tear-resistant as well as stretchy and offers good protection against chemicals, oils and greases. They are often used in the medical or cosmetic sector, as well as in the catering, care or craft industries. However, since disposable latex gloves can trigger a latex allergy and cause skin irritation, many businesses are now turning to alternatives when purchasing disposable gloves.

These alternatives include nitrile gloves, which are now the most popular disposable gloves. They combine the positive characteristics of latex gloves without causing allergies. Despite their good resistance, they are relatively thin and allow a good tactile sensation. They protect effectively against chemicals, oils and greases, are extremely tear-resistant and adapt to the shape of the wearer’s hand. However, nitrile disposable gloves are less stretchy than latex gloves. The areas of application for nitrile gloves are the same as for latex gloves.

Furthermore, vinyl is also available for use as a disposable glove. Vinyl gloves are very soft and therefore comfortable to wear. Compared to latex gloves and nitrile gloves, these disposable gloves also offer a price advantage. However, they offer less protection and are less stretchy and tear-resistant. They are rarely used in the medical sector or the food industry, as they are not suitable for this. However, they are used in parts of the care sector, in the cosmetics sector or in private households.

Disposable gloves made of polyethylene (PE or HDPE) are suitable for low-risk work. Among other things, they are often used in food processing because they are tasteless, odourless and food-safe. They are also popular in hairdressing and beauty salons as well as for refuelling. They protect against oils and fats and slightly against chemicals. They are tear-resistant, but do not adapt to the shape of the hand. Therefore they are not suitable for precise work. The PE gloves in our shop are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). This makes them particularly abrasion-resistant.

What should be considered when choosing disposable gloves?

Before choosing the appropriate disposable glove, you should answer a few questions. For which hazardous substances should the glove be suitable? Do the wearers have allergies that should be considered? What are the specifics of the work area where the disposable gloves will be used? Since not every glove is suitable for every application and there is no one disposable glove that covers all needs, this analysis is important in advance.

For example, a medical glove does not necessarily protect against hazardous chemicals. The wrong choice of glove could thus lead to serious injuries to your employees. You may even need different disposable gloves for one work area, which will need to be changed depending on what activity is being carried out. For each disposable glove in our shop, you will therefore find an exact specification of the standards it fulfils and to which PPE category it belongs. We stock disposable gloves in PPE categories I and III. Depending on the model, they also meet the requirements for a protective glove against hazardous chemicals and microorganisms (EN ISO 374) or for medical gloves for single use (EN 455).
