How To Clean Nike Golf Gloves

Tired of your glove looking like it came out of your bag as a dirty, crumpled mess? Do you miss that new glove feeling and want to extend the life of your golf glove?

Luckily both of these things can be done with some minimal effort. The best ways to quickly clean a golf glove are with cold water on the golf course, cold water and soap over a sink, and throwing your glove in the washer with other delicates.

Just keep in mind you will want to only wash the glove when it is noticeably dirty.

Continuous washing of a cabretta leather golf glove will wear down the leather and shorten the life of your golf glove. There are great ways such as cycling through 2-3 golf gloves and having good golf club grips that will help increase your golf glove life.

This applies to synthetic gloves as well, just to a lesser extent as washing still wears down the synthetic material over time.

3 Ways to Quickly Clean a Golf Glove

Cleaning Golf Glove in the Sink

The easiest and most effective way to clean your glove. After your round, just go home and quickly clean your glove to get the dirt and sweat out and get your glove back to feeling new!

Cleaning Golf Glove on the Golf Course

The process is pretty simple if you want to clean your golf glove while on the golf course. This isn’t the ideal way since it will take some time out of your round and you will need an extra glove for the rest of the round.

  1. Pour cold water on the spot(s) of the glove that need cleaned.
  2. Lightly rub the dirty areas until the dirt and grime are out of the glove.
  3. Let air dry either on the cart or hanging from your golf bag

Tips:

  • It’s easiest and most effective to keep the glove on your hand while pouring water and cleaning it
  • Bring another glove if you are going to clean it on the course, the glove will be damp for the rest of the round.
  • If you only have one glove, here are some great alternatives to golf gloves while waiting for your glove to dry.

Cleaning Golf Glove in the Washer

This is the most time-consuming way to clean a golf glove and also the least amount of work. Perfect for the busy parent who has to do a load (or 2 or 3!) of laundry once or twice a week.

  1. To avoid damaging the golf glove, put the golf glove in a pillowcase or garment bag to avoid the glove getting out
  2. Wash with other clothes or towels with cold water only.
  3. Hang up or lay out flat (make sure it’s not crumpled up) and air dry.

Tips:

  • DO NOT use hot water, it can damage the leather in the glove.
  • You can let it air dry anywhere in the house or outside, but point a fan on high at the glove if it’s needed in the next few hours.
  • NEVER put it in the dryer, this will damage the leather and shorten the life of your glove.

Reasons to clean your golf glove

  • It will extend the life of the glove, saving you money
  • Clean gloves lead to better performance from the glove, resulting in lower scores.
  • A clean golf glove ensures that it does not get crusty and does not fit as well as it used to. See our golf glove buying guide for a golf glove size chart.
  • A new looking glove is visually appealing, similar to washing and waxing a car. You know the old saying; Look good, feel good, play good.

How to Make a Golf Glove Soft Again

The best way to refresh a golf glove and get a few more rounds out of it is as follows.

  1. Follow one of 3 ways listed above to clean the golf glove
  2. Once glove is dry, rub some leather conditioner (or coconut oil) on the inside and outside of the glove and repeat as necessary until the leather feels rejuvenated and as soft as new.

It is really that simple! I have had gloves last me another month or two because of this and it is now part of my routine as my gloves start to age and the leather gets dry and crinkled. This works great on cabretta leather gloves and synthetic leather gloves!
