How To Clean Pet Grooming Gloves

We purchased the Delomo Pet Grooming Gloves so our writer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.

While many dog brushes are intended for certain breeds and coat types, the Delomo Pet Grooming Gloves were designed with all dogs in mind. Made in blue or red, these gloves can also be used on cats—and horses, too. They come as a pair, allowing you to use both hands for grooming. The soft silicone tips on the gloves’ underside remove loose hair and provide a relaxing massage for your pet.

The gloves are one-size-fits-all, and the adjustable velcro straps around the wrists can be used for a slightly more contoured fit. I have average-sized hands for a female, and the gloves fit well length-wise, but the finger compartments were a bit loose. The top portion of the gloves is made of soft mesh fabric, while the underside of each glove is covered with 255 silicone tips to trap and remove hair. To prevent the hair from scattering, the instructions say to spray a bit of water on the silicone tips before use.

This was the first time I used a mitt-style dog brush. I wasn’t sure how my dogs would react to the gloves, so I started gently. They remained relaxed in my lap and didn’t seem to mind the sight or the feel of them. On my first pass, only a few strands of hair came loose. Once I applied a little more pressure, I noticed a significant amount of hair on the gloves. After using the gloves on each of my dogs for several minutes, their coats were noticeably smoother and shinier. Both dogs remained calm while I ran the gloves through their coats, and they seemed to enjoy the massaging sensation.

I have two Maltese dogs, a small, long-haired breed. Their coats shed minimally, but they require daily brushing because they are prone to matting. I wasn’t expecting to see a huge amount of hair on the gloves (as you would with certain breeds that shed a lot), but I was pleased to see the gloves removed just as much hair and dirt as my standard dog brushes. Thanks to the double-handed technique, I groomed them faster using the gloves versus a single brush. The gloves worked really well on their ears and tails, where the hair is significantly longer. I used the gloves daily, and they helped prevent matting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the gloves get rid of tangles and mats?

Removing tangles and mats are two areas where the Delomo Pet Grooming Gloves fell short. Although they did a nice job of removing loose hair from my dogs’ coats, they weren’t very effective at detangling and removing existing mats. My dogs suffer from allergies, and their eyes often tear, which causes the hair around the eyes to clump together. The bristles on the gloves are too soft and spaced too far apart to brush out those tangles effectively.

How do you clean the gloves?

Loose hair sticks to the silicone tips as you brush your dog, and can easily peel the hair out of the gloves with your fingers. Wipe the silicone side with a wet cloth to remove any stubborn hair. If any hair sticks to the gloves’ mesh surface, you can use tape or a lint roller to remove it. For added convenience, the gloves can be machine washed in a gentle cycle.

Are the gloves worth buying?

Considering their very affordable price tag, I think the Delomo Pet Grooming Gloves are definitely worth a try. Although they eliminated the loose hair from my dogs’ coats, they are too soft to remove mats and tangles. In my experience, the tool that works best on matted hair is a fine-toothed comb. While I love the Delomo Pet Grooming Gloves for basic brushing, they won’t replace other items in my pet grooming arsenal. That said, they are still a helpful accessory.

Delomo Pet Grooming Gloves vs. the Competition

Retailing around $16, the Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush is another grooming tool that is ideal for all dog breeds and all hair lengths. Users praise the brush for its comfort-grip design and its ability to remove tangles and prevent mats. It has a self-cleaning feature that activates with the push of a button; emptying it is quick and easy.

If you’re looking for a brush that’s better at tackling tangles, consider the Pet Neat Pet Grooming Brush for $15. Best suited for short-hair breeds, reviewers say this brush removes loose hair and tangles quickly and effectively. It has a sturdy, easy-to-grip handle and a four-inch comb that reaches deep into your dog’s undercoat to brush out loose hair and prevent shedding.
