Well, instead of going out and buying a new tanning mitt every month, which we’re all guilty of doing 👀, let’s save some money and stick to the washing at home method. It’s time to collate all your old tan mitts at the bottom of the cupboard and time to get CLEANING!

Wondering how to wash a tanning mitt?

There are two main ways you can clean your tan applicator mitt which include washing your tanning mitt in the sink or washing your tan mitt in the washing machine… Pick your poison!

How to wash your tanning mitt in the sink:

1. RinseFirstly, we recommend rinsing your mitt under warm water to remove sany excess self tanner that can be built in the mitt. Make sure you give it a good squeeze and make sure the water coming out of it isn’t brown anymore.

2. Fill your sink with waterStart to fill up your sink or bucket with warm water and add a small amount of mild soap or laundry detergent until the mixture gets bubbly. Honestly, just pick up what ever you have laying around the house!

3. Scrub, scrub, SCRUB!Place your tanning mitt in the soapy water concoction and use a soft sponge or brush to scrub the surface of the mitt. Make sure you get into every nook and cranny of that mitt and make sure no more brown residue is coming off it.

4. Give it another rinseOnce there is no tan residue coming off the mitt, rinse your mitt again thoroughly under warm water remove all the soap. No bubbles or soup should be left of the tan applicator!

5. Time to drySqueeze out all the excess water that comes from the mitt and lay it flat on a clean, dry towel. Make sure it’s not in reach for any young children or our fury friends! Allow the tanning mitt to air dry completely before your next bronzing sesh!

How to wash your tanning mitt in the washing machine:

If you’re lazy like us, washing your tanning mitt in the sink could be a bit of a stretch LOL. So here’s how to wash your tan applicator in the washing machine!

1. RinseMake sure you rinse off your tanning mitt and ensure there is no excess tan that is left on the applicator prior to putting it in the washing machine.

2. Put it in with your darksWhen you go to wash your next dark load (dark colours), chuck in your self tanning mitt to that wash. Just keep it on a cool, delicate wash and let your machine work it’s magic

3. Leave it out to dryDo not make the mistake of chucking your tan mitt in the dryer! Trust us, we’ve been there, and you do not want a shrinked tanning mitt that will barely fit your pinkie finger. Grab out a towel and lay it down flat until it’s fully dried.

How often should I be washing my tan mitt?To ensure we’re keeping ourselves and out mitts clean, we recommend washing your tanning mitt every few weeks depending on how often you’re self tanning. If you’re applying tan once a week, we’d recommend washing your mitt every two weeks. Otherwise, if you are less frequent in applying tan, we recommend washing your mitt once a month or after every second application.

Can I use a dryer to dry my mitt?Please DO NOT put your tanning mitt in the dryer or use a blow-dryer to dry your mitt! Our mitts are very delicate and the heat can damage or even shrink the mitt, so we want to handle our applicator with care.
