How To Crochet 1859s Gloves

Crochet granite stitch fingerless gloves are a great way to keep your hands warm but keep your fingers free!

My hands always seem to be cold, maybe its poor circulation, but another part of me chalks it up to being the cold weather we have 9 months out of the year where I live. Since I can’t wear gloves all day and night, I opt for fingerless gloves so the majority of my hands stay warm. Fingerless gloves are a great accessory to have and are quick and easy to make for new and experienced crocheters.

My version of crochet fingerless gloves, more like crochet wrist warmers really, use the granite stitch, also known as the moss or linen crochet stitch. This pattern creates a dense and beautifully woven fabric that is perfect for keeping your hands warm while allowing your fingers the freedom to move.

What makes the granite stitch unique compared to other basic stitches?

  1. It uses less yarn than a single crochet because of the chains.
  2. It is stretchier than a normal single crochet, but still maintains thick coverage with minimal holes. Perfect for pillows, blankets, gloves etc. If you like the crochet granite stitch, check out my Free Crochet Granite Stitch Cushion Pattern.
  3. It has fewer holes than double crochet, granny squares, etc. Making it safer to use on projects that need less or smaller holes, like baby blankets. As well as being a great stitch choice for a solid yet stretchy crochet stitch for clothing or gloves!

A thing to note for the pattern: If you need to make the crochet granite stitch fingerless gloves wider for larger forearms, increase the chains in multiples of 3 +1 for the turning chain.

I used acrylic yarn but you can also use wool instead for wool crochet fingerless gloves if you want to make them extra toasty!

These crochet fingerless gloves also make great things to sell at markets, or last minute Christmas gifts since it takes about an hour to complete the pair.
