How To Crochet Fingerless Gloves Step By Step

Here is another free pattern of crochet fingerless gloves! It’s a simple design and easy enough for beginners! The design is similar to the fingerless gloves I previously shared with you with a different type of crochet stitch.

This post may include affiliate links, view my disclosure policy for details.

The type of stitch I’m using here is commonly used for ribbing on cardigans, jumpers/sweaters, hats/beanies etc. The stitch makes an elastic, soft and stretchy fabric which makes it great for fingerless gloves!

Difficulty level

Easy. The design is very simple and easy to do. The gloves are worked flat in rows and then stitched together on the side of the thumb, leaving a hole for the thumb. That’s all there is to it! And because of the nature of this stitch, it’s still very stretchy so that you can fit your hand inside with no problems!

About the Yarn

I used Comfy Worsted by WeCrochet. It’s 75% Pima Cotton and 25% Acrylic. It’s a nice cotton/acrylic blend and I like how soft it feels!

Finished Size

Length: 8″ (20 cm)

Width of the assembled glove (small size): 3″ (7.5cm)

To find out your glove size: Measure around the widest part of your hand (excluding the thumb) with a tape measure.

Small = 7″ (18cm)

Medium = 8″ (20cm)

Large = 9″ (23cm)

Make the width approx 1.5″ (4cm) less than your actual hand measurement. E.g. if your hand measures 8″ around (excluding the thumb) until you reach 6.5″ before you stitch the sides together.

Gauge

17 Sts x 19 rows in pattern = 4″ (10cm)

Materials

Yarn: I used Comfy Worsted (75% Pima Cotton, 25% Acrylic, 109yds/99m, 50g). Colours: Ivory and Copper

Amount: 1 skein. I recommend getting 2 skeins in case you want to make them longer and/or larger.

Alternatively, you can use any medium worsted #4 yarn.

Crochet hooks: 5.5mm (I-9) for the foundation chain and 4.5mm (7) for the rest of the glove.

Scissors, yarn needle.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

Ch = chain

St(s) = stitch(es)

SC = single crochet

BLO = back loop only

Crochet Pattern Notes

  • The gloves are worked flat lengthwise in back-and-forth rows, then sewn together on the side of the thumb.
  • You’ll need to use a 5.5mm hook for the foundation chain and a 4.5mm hook for the rest of the glove
  • The Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
  • You can make shorter or longer gloves by chaining less or more for your foundation chain.
  • You can make wider or narrower gloves by working more or less rows.

Written Instructions Fingerless Gloves

Ch 35 with your 5.5mm (I/9) hook. Chain more for longer gloves and less for shorter gloves.

Row 1: Change to a 4.5mm crochet hook. Working on the back bumps of the chain, SC in second Ch from hook and across the row (34). Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: SC in BLO of first St and every St across the row. (34) Ch 1, turn.

Repeat row 2 until you reach: 5.5″ (small), 6.5″ (medium) and 7.5″ (large).

Assembling:

Sew the two sides together with the yarn needle, leaving a hole for your thumb.

Start by stitching 2″ from the top, then leave approx. 1.5″ for your thumb and stitch the rest together. When making the hole for the thumb, stitch on one side only so you don’t have to cut the yarn.

I hope you like this simple & easy design!
