What characterizes crochet dragon gloves?

This unique kind of gloves feature a special technique that imitates dragon scales, so that’s where the name comes from! The stitch I’m talking about is called crocodile stitch, because it resembles reptile’s skin.

The most popular types of dragon scale gloves

It’s quite obvious that the most popular are fingerless ones, because they have the simplest shape. Crocodile stitch is quite complicated and decorative, so the easier the construction of the glove, the better. Dragon gloves differ in length and combination of stitches, but what they all have in common is the fantasy look!

I’m a beginner. Will I be able to make it?

I think you will be, but it will require some patience to learn new techniques! As I’ve already mentioned, crocodile stitch requires some practice, so keep it in mind. Other than that, there’s no better project to learn it with, because gloves work up fast and eat much less yarn than other projects!

Every kind of yarn has different qualities, so be sure to know what’s what before you start. Learn more about types of yarn in my Yarn 101 Series!

Dragon Scale Fingerless Gloves Version by mlkcrawford *free crochet pattern*

Oh how I love this colorway! Mlk Crawford used Caron Skinny Cakes yarn in the Plum Pudding colorway, but did the trick of choosing the same color to start both gloves. This way both pieces start with deep violet and feature a little bit of yellow in the finger part – clever, huh? Take a look at the photos!

Why not go for simpler choices, such as one color, or speckled yarn? Both of these will create a truly dragon-like look, because subtle speckles add to the resemblance to uneven reptile’s skin. What’s more, dense crocodile stitches will surely make your hands warm, so try them and make yourself a new winter staple!

Dragon Scale Stripe Mitts by Hooked by Kati

These gloves are something different, because Kati decided to work them sideways! It’s a very clever technique, because it totally changes the look. There’s nothing better than using multicolored yarn for such projects, because you don’t have to worry about coming up with your own combinations. You just buy stunning ombre yarn and crochet away! I recommend choosing the yarns with many short color changes, because they will be better visible in such small project.
