2. Row 2: ch 4, dc in the last sc of the previous row, *ch 5, (dc, ch, dc) in the sc of the previous row*; Repeat *-* until the end of the row;

3. Row 3: ch1, sc in the last dc of the previous row, dc 4 in the next ch of the previous row, sc in the 4th dc of the shell stitch (the ch 5 should be inside the sc); *shell stitch in the next ch of the previous row, sc in the 4th dc of the shell stitch of the previous row (the ch 5 should be inside the sc)*; Repeat *-*, in the last ch of the previous row crochet 4 dc.

Repeat the pattern from row 2 until you reach the desire length.

For my mittens I’ve started with 44 chains and I’ve crocheted 17 rows, but you can make them longer or shorter if you want.

How to assemble it:

Fold the rectangular that you just crocheted into half, sew the edges together, but leave a space for the thumb.

You can leave it like that or you can crochet a few rows of double crochet for the thumb. In the image below you can see how I did it:

The chart for the thumb:

The written pattern for the thumb:

1. Row 1: In the space left for the thumb start with 2 ch and 2 dc in the same space, sl.st into the edge.

2. Row 2: Sl st 2 stitches up in the edge, dc 2 in the next st of the previous row, dc 1 (in the middle dc of the previous row), dc 2 in the next dc of the previous row, sl.st into the edge.

3. Row 3: Sl st 2 stitches up in the edge, dc 2 in the st of the previous row, dc 3 in next 3 stitches of the previous row, dc 2 in the next st of the previous row, sl.st into the edge.

4. Row 4: Sl st 2 stitches up in the edge, dc 2 in the st of the previous row, dc 5 in next 5 stitches of the previous row, dc 2 in the next st of the previous row, sl.st into the edge.

The next two rows you’ll crochet in rounds:

1. Instead of making 2 sl st up in the edge you crochet 2 ch and continue with dc in every stitch of the previous row until you reach the next edge. Here you’ll continue crocheting dc in the remaining edge until you reach the first 2 ch of the round, sl st to finish the round. My round has 13 dc, but you can make more if you need (the edge allows you to crochet more stitches into it).

2. Ch 2, dc in every stitch, sl st to finish the round.

If you want you can make an additional round, just repeat round 2 until you reach the desire length.
