How To Hang Up Rubber Gloves

The following is a guest post from regular contributor, Rachel at Useful Beautiful Home.

I’m a big fan of tackling deep spring cleaning chores one month at a time throughout the year rather than all at once. However, it never fails to end up with a handful of tasks that always get bunched up around spring time waiting for a sunny day. That said, I was recently reviewing my supplies & spring cleaning plans when I ran across something I thought was worth sharing – how to hang a box of disposable cleaning gloves for easy access.

Using the inside of cabinet doors to hang a box of disposable cleaning gloves

I keep disposable cleaning gloves handy for a variety of reasons. I also have reusable gloves which are just as effective, but sometimes a bacteria-laden situation requires gloves that can be properly (and promptly) disposed.

In the medical field, boxes of gloves are mounted to the wall by specially designed holders. It’s convenient and something I grew accustom to utilizing over the years. In my own home, keeping a box of gloves on a shelf or in a container hidden somewhere never worked quite right for me. Many times I wanted to hang a box of gloves on a wall exactly like a hospital room, but that seemed a bit tacky. Plus, my husband was less than thrilled with that idea. 🙂

Then, it hit me… why not hang them on the inside of a cabinet?!!

Using the inside of a cabinet door for organizing

The challenge was how to hang the box of gloves. I really didn’t want to purchase a professional glove box holder sold at medical supply stores and I knew industrial strength tape or a glue adhesive would ruin the wood finish if I change my mind.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way! I brainstormed and ended up using my trusty sticky-back wire hooks (not a sponsored post, just sharing what worked for me!).

creative use for making the most of the inside of a cabinet door

I always keep a box mounted on the inside of our kitchen cabinet door. It works great yet remains hidden from sight. It’s also out-of-reach from children & animals to avoid potential harm. Best of all, it’s easy to access for putrid messes or handling raw meat in the kitchen.

Here’s the easy and inexpensive how-to…

I found a box of gloves that would fit inside my cabinet door, also taking into account the contents on the shelves inside so that all would fit once the door shuts. Then, I opened the top of the box and made a hole using a standard hole puncher.

I did that on each corner at the top of the box, making two holes total and then folded the lid closed again.

I attached the adhesive part to the plastic backside of each hook as instructed and then put the hooks inside the box holes. (Sorry, no picture to share since this was done months ago, but the idea is to line everything up before mounting to the cabinet door.) With the hooks inside the box, I then removed the second paper backing of the adhesive strip and pressed each piece onto the door.

At the bottom, I stuck an extra double-sided sticky strip on the box (shown below). This sticks to the cabinet door and…

Anchor the bottom with an unused adhesive strip

The hooks allow me to replace the box as needed but that’s a time-waster to punch more holes and find an extra sticky strip for the bottom. Instead, I just refill the box with more gloves when we run low.

creative way to make the most of the space inside your cabinet doors

The inside face of a cabinet door, or any door for that matter, is full of organizing potential! I can name at least half-a-dozen ways to use that unmarked territory for good. One example I’ve shown in the past is my medicine cabinet (HERE). Currently, I’m working on getting permission to compile a long list of ways other organized bloggers have maximized this often overlooked space. Spoiler alert, more on organizing the inside of your doors coming soon! So in preparation, give yours a good wipe-down before spring cleaning starts! 😉
