I love this textured yarn! However, it took me a while to figure out what to do with it. I guess I have a tendency to want to try elaborate stitch patterns, but with a textured yarn fancy stitches just don’t show very well. Added to which they were not so flattering to showing the yarn off well.
So, I have kept this project simple, which makes it nice and quick to work up a pair of fingerless gloves and matching scarf (look out for this pattern next week!)

I thought these carved coconut buttons matched the natural feel of the yarn, which is an alpaca mix so it is lovely and warm!

You will need:
- 140m SMC Aventica Supreme yarn (aran or worsted weight)
- Size 5mm hook
- 2 large buttons (approx. 28mm diameter)
Pattern (make 2):
To make longer or shorter gloves just add or remove multiples of 3 to the starting chain, and increase or decrease the number of V sts (dc, ch1, dc) accordingly.
Ch 39
R1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in each ch to end, ch2, turn (37 sts)
R2: dc in each st to end, ch2, turn, (37 sts)

R3: dc in each of the next 6 sts, sk 1 st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next st, sk 2 sts, repeat from * 7 times, (dc, ch1, dc) in next st, sk 1 st, dc in each of the last 4 sts, ch2, turn (37 sts)
R4: dc in next 4 sts, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next ch-sp, repeat from * 8 times, sk 1 st, dc in each of the last 6 sts, ch2, turn (37 sts)
R5: dc in each of the next 6 sts, sk 1 st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next ch-sp, repeat from * 8 times, sk 1 st, dc in each of the last 4 sts, ch2, turn (37 sts)
R6&7: Repeat row 2
R8: dc in next 4 sts, sk 1 st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next st, sk 2 sts, repeat from * 9 times, (dc, ch1, dc), dc in final st, ch2, turn (37 sts)
R9: dc in 1st st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in ch-sp, repeat from * 10 times, sk 1 st, dc in each of last 4 sts, ch2, turn (37 sts)
R10: dc in next 4 sts, sk 1 st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in ch-sp, repeat from * 10 times, dc in final st, ch2, turn (37 sts)
Continue to repeat R9 and 10 until the piece is wide enough to wrap around your lower arm and hand. This was 6 more rows for mine.
If you finished on a row 9, break yarn and re-join at the other end to start working the fastening flap. Ch2 and turn work. If you finished on a row 10, you are already in the right place, do not break yarn.
Work the flap as follows:
R1: 6 hdc, ch2, turn (6 sts)

Repeat row 1 until the flap is the desired length to the buttonhole location. This was 8 rows total on my version.
R2: 2 hdc, ch2, sk 2 sts, 2 hdc, ch2, turn (6sts)
R3: hdc in first 2 sts, 2 hdc in ch sp, hdc in last 2 sts, ch1, turn (6 sts)
R4: sc2tog, sc, sc, sc2tog, ch1, turn (4 sts)
R5: sc2tog, sc2tog, ch1, turn (2 sts)
R6: sc2tog (1 st)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Fold in half lengthways and sew up the seam approximately two thirds of the way up, making sure you leave enough room for a thumbhole. Sew a button to the placket formed by the rows of 6 dc’s. On the second glove, make sure you sew the button on the opposite side so you end up with a left and a right, rather than 2 rights or 2 lefts! (You can just turn the glove inside out to reverse it).
Block as desired.
