Oh yes, another Pokemon DIY craft (just search “Pokemon” on my blog and you’ll know what I mean 😛 )!!! My son has his way to challenge me! And this is not just an Ash Ketchum Costume, it’s Ash from Pokemon XY. So not the Ash costume you’re used to seeing!

Ash Ketchum t-shirt
Even though you can see in this image that I made the whole costume, including the blue and white shirt, this will not be a tutorial about this shirt.
OMG no! I’m not a good sewer. In fact, I really hate it and if I can avoid it, I will!! So I don’t know what got into me with that but I tried to make an Ash shirt by using a blue t-shirt and sewing pieces of white fabric. Not. good. at. all.
So if you’re like me and you hate sewing, but still want to make the shirt, I found this post from Frugal Florida Mom where she uses white Duck tape on a blue t-shirt. That’s my kinda thing!
The worst thing is that I thought of using white Duck tape to make the shirt and even bought some, pinky swear! But sometimes, I get caught up in “making it perfect” so I went with white fabric. Are you like that too? Always want your crafts to look perfect? Well, let me tell you, it’s not always worth it!

So, that being said, I will instead show you how to make the cap, accessories and the gloves, which require way less sewing.
The cap

Required materials to make the cap
You just mix your paint half and half with the GAC-900 and paint the circles. You’ll need at least 2 coats. You can trace the circles with a pencil before if you want and just use something round that is about the same size. If you don’t feel comfortable eye-balling it, just get the free template accessible in my resources library.
Note that the template I offer you is not a stencil and is made only to guide you. Here is how to use it :
And then you’re all set to trace the design.
The gloves
Required materials for the gloves
Now, for that, you’ll need sewing! But, since you’re reading this, you won’t need to do it twice as I did!
So this is important: Since the gloves are stretchable, you can’t just sew (or tape!) a red fabric all around. You need to take into consideration the elasticity of the gloves. You want your kid to be able to put on the gloves.
So, I measured my son’s wrist and made a 2 inches wide rectangle with the red fabric. It needs to be just a little longer than the wrist.

Now, the only sewing that needs to be done is for the velcros (and the sides of the rectangle if you want nicer edges).
Accessories
For the accessories, the Charmander Pokemon my son has in his hands (Yes, Mom know the Pokemon’s names!!) is an Amigurumi I made a while back. It was my first one so it’s far from being perfect, but my son’s love it! You can see the post I have about it by clicking here.
In the picture, he also has an egg which is an item you can find in Pokemon Go game. The only thing he did (yep, he did it himself!) was taking a fake egg from the food toys we still had and drawing green dots on it with a crayon.
One thing you don’t see is the Pokeball. I had made a crochet apple cozy in the shape of a Pokeball and we also used it for the costume. You can find the tutorial here.
And, of course, Ash needs his Pikachu! That’s a plush toy he already had but you can find great deals here.
