How To Make Waterproof Gloves

We have been thinking, what projects made with fabrics could be of help for these moments that we are living. Protection is one of the topics that we are most concerned about right now and that is why we have created this tutorial to teach you how to sew fabric gloves. The use of disposable plastic gloves is not sustainable in the long term, on the contrary, the fabrics are washed and can be reused. We have made two types of gloves, one with waterproof fabrics (water-resistant) and the other with our jersey knit fabrics. Follow the step by step tutorial we have created and you will see that you will soon have your gloves ready.

Neither version protects 100% so you should always follow the recommendations given by the WHO. Avoid touching your face, remove them as appropriate, wash your hands and properly disinfect the gloves for your next use.

How to sew cloth gloves

For this glove tutorial, we have used the Just Chill waterproof fabric for the waterproof option and the Seagull Sand for the jersey version.

Step by step gloves

  1. The first thing you should do is make your own pattern according to your hand as we show you in the video (in the case of using jersey fabric) or use a supermarket plastic glove as a template and add seam allowance (waterproof fabric option).
  2. Cut the pattern 4 times with the fabric double right against right.
  3. Fasten with pins and sew along the seam line.
  4. Cut leaving 0.5 cm of a seam to the entire pattern. Make cuts on each finger until you reach the seam so that it turns well when you turn it over. In all curved areas, make small cuts without reaching the seam approximately every 1 cm.
  5. Turn around, remove everything well and iron with a piece of cloth on top.
  6. Make a hem at the 1.5cm seam cuff: A. Sew in the case of jersey fabric with a zig-zag stitch. B. In the waterproof fabric, sew leaving an opening to put the elastic with a safety pin.

In less than you imagine you will have these gloves sewn to go outside, go to the supermarket, etc … You can also make an easy fabric mask with our step-by-step tutorial.

We hope you put it into practice and we can see your versions using the hashtags #katiafabrics #sewingatHOME
