Details
The bulbs grow 4 – 5” across, slightly flattened with light yellow skin covering pale yellow to white flesh. After harvesting, gardeners often describe their onions as mostly being larger than softball-size with some just about softball-size.
Sweet Candy is very easy to grow thanks to its strong root system and disease resistance. It also matures about a month sooner than some of the other varieties of red and yellow onions, making them first to the kitchen and table in late summer.

These are ready-to-plant bulbs and not seeds or slips.
Type
This is an intermediate day or day-neutral onion, well adapted to both northern and southern climates. Needs 12 to 14 hours of daylight to form good sized bulbs. When planted in early to mid spring, it forms good sized bulbs from Northern Texas or Florida up to Maine.
Early maturing, this is the onion for anyone who has had challenges growing onions before. Very easy to grow due to its strong root system and disease resistance.
Uses
Sweet onions have almost no heat but loads of sweet flavor, sweeter than any other onions. The higher sugar content makes them perfect for an unforgettable French onion soup, as caramelizing glazes into a beautiful maple-syrup color with a deep, rich and complex flavor to match.

When raw, they can be sliced and layered in sandwiches or chopped into fresh salsas and are mild enough for salads.
When cooked, the onions can be chopped and baked into casseroles, sautéed with green beans, roasted alongside meats, sliced into stir-fries, grilled and placed on burgers, or separated into rings and fried.
Candy onions pair well with mushrooms, celery, asparagus, green beans, garlic, poultry, beef, pork, bacon, roasted nuts, avocado, apple, mango, citrus, and chiles.
The large bulbs will keep for a few weeks when stored in a cool place.
