Are nuns any different from the rest of us? Do they wear their regular habit to sleep as well or is it strictly for church or special occasions?

Do they have certain garments that they consider appropriate or inappropriate to wear? Have you ever wondered how they manage to dress up for bed?

we will be looking specifically at these issues as well as discussing what makes them wear what they wear to bed plus, if they are limited to any type of night clothes and why that is so.

So, What do nuns wear to bed? There is no rule cast in stone as regards what nuns can or cannot wear to bed. They can pretty much wear anything as long as it is decent.

From extensive research, we have seen that there are nuns who hardly ever take their robes off till it is bedtime.

Now that we are talking about it, it is very common to see some of them change into their nightgowns when they want to sleep. Others put on any other piece of clothing that they find comfortable.

Do not be surprised. Nuns do get comfortable in their nightgowns and indeed, whatever dress they decide to wear when they are at home or on vacation.

What kind of nightgowns do nuns wear?

We can easily give different types of clothing that nuns wear to bed and it is all thanks to the many expressive nuns that we have around.

A good number of these nuns divulged that they wear long-sleeved nightdresses with collars.

They further revealed that they prefer nightgowns made of cotton and it is not hard to see why. Outfits made with cotton are breathable and so, keep the body well-ventilated and dry.

This way, they feel comfortable all through the night, even though the nightgowns are long-sleeved. Others wear actual pajamas to bed, while yet another group, may wear shorts and a maxi shirt to bed.

The bottom line is that nuns can pretty much wear anything in the confines of their homes. Furthermore, you may have noticed that nuns are both modest and conservative and, this side of them can be seen even in their choice of nightgowns.

What are the yardsticks used in classifying a garment to be modest or conservative?

Loose, not tight-fitting clothes

Overly tight clothes that put the body shape on display cannot be said to be modest. Loose clothing that would conceal and not amplify the body shape is definitely what is expected of a nun to wear.

Short or Long Clothing?

Again, we see here that nuns as well as other people who are inclined to a modest lifestyle, feel the need to conceal their bodies as much as possible. Short dresses cannot be categorized as conservative.

Now, to answer the popular question, “How short is too short?” We will say that anything that goes way above the knee is too short. Nuns see that their outfit goes way below their knees offering enough coverage.

Transparent or Nontransparent Clothing?

It just has to be nontransparent clothing. Transparent clothing or what is popularly known as see-through is very revealing and so, cannot be said modestly.

Distractive or non distractive clothing.

Dresses that are very busy or too elaborate can be distracting. Revealing clothes too can also be distractive.

It is common knowledge that anything that keeps people fixated on your dressing or thwarts their concentration or attention is not modest or conservative.

Nuns are expected to appear modest always and above are some of the key points in adjudging if an outfit is both modest and conservative.

Do these key points count when it comes to their choice of nightwear?

We will say both Yes and No.

Yes, because modesty should be like a way of life for them and it is expected that they imbibe it both in public and in private.

Some other schools of thought may disagree because comfort should be the foremost priority when it comes to sleeping garments.

Nightgowns can be short, but not too short for nuns, as long as it is comfortable enough for them and also, worn privately.

Its transparency should also be minimal and they must see that they throw a robe on when they step an inch outside of their room door or receive a guest.

Most people would not find tight nightgowns to be comfortable so, that is totally out of it. There is no question too of the nightgown being distracting as it is a piece of clothing that is worn indoors only so, there is nobody around to distract.
