What Does The Number 16 Mean In The Bible

Meaning of Numbers: The Number 516

The possible meaning of the number 516 is derived from the occurrences of certain words and from Biblical history.

God commanded ancient Israel to observe what is known as a Sabbatical year (Leviticus 25:1 – 7, 19 – 23). The beginning of this special period was (likely) proclaimed on the Day of Trumpets (Tishri 1) at the start of every seventh year. A Biblical Sabbatical year, the seventh in a series of seven, ran from Thursday September 24 in 515 A.D. to Monday September 12 in 516 A.D.

One of God’s Jubilee years, proclaimed every 50th year on the Day of Atonement, started on Wednesday September 21 in 516 A.D. It is a joyous time when Promised Land territory that was sold came back into the possession of its original Israelite owner (Leviticus 25:10, 13). This Jubilee ended on Monday September 11 in 517.

Entry 516 in the Hebrew definition portion of Strong’s Concordance is al tashcheth. It is found only four times in the Hebrew Old Testament. Its four occurrences are in Psalms 57:1, 58:1, 59:1 and 75:1 where it is translated as “Altaschith” in the King James. The word itself, found in the title of these songs, means “do not destroy.” Al tashcheth may have been an existing song the tune of which was to be utilized for these Psalms.

Its last use in Scripture is meant to draw the reader’s attention to God’s warning about the devil’s end time rule.

And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? . . .

And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear (Revelation 13:4, 7 – 9, KJV).
