Welcome back, everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve had a Dew Review to do. The last one was back in January. What a different world we lived in back then! O,o
Anyway, that was the last time I had a chance to find a new flavor of Mountain Dew on the shelves. But those Zeros were actually not the Dew I was expecting to find. You see, I’d heard rumors of this Dew coming around October/November last year. A friend shared a post about a new, blue flavor that was coming “at the start of next year.” So, I’d been on the lookout for this since then. Of course, the quarantine messed that up. For obvious reasons, I’ve not been headed out to the grocery store as regularly as I used to (hence why the major slowdown in Hot Sauce Reviews as well. Though, there, I’m actually collecting a back-log of them to do once I can get wings most days again).

So, when I saw that this had hit shelves, I was rather sad, since I hadn’t planned on going to the grocery store again for a couple weeks. But, a friend was out getting supplies and found a 12-pack. She picked it up and during a trip to drop off some other supplies to me (don’t worry, she just dropped them on my porch and left), she left me a few cans. They’ve been chilling in my fridge for a week since then, and now it’s time to finally dive in. So, without further ado, let’s get to the pour.

That’s blue. Very blue. The bluest blue. It’s hard to think of a blue that’s more than that blue right there. Whoof.
As for scent, it’s got a mild berry scent to it. Being blue, I expect this to be raspberry, since that’s usually the flavor associated with that color. I mean, that’s what we get with Voltage. It’s not what we got with Charged Berry Blast, which was a huge disappointment. I do wish I had a Voltage on hand for a side-by-side comparison. But waddyagonnado in these strange times?
Taking a big swig, the taste is… weird. It’s definitely berry-like… kinda. There’s a lot of aftertaste as well. I actually looked at the side of the can to see if this had artificial sweeteners of some kind. But no, it’s High-Fructose Corn Syrup as expected. I just don’t know about this one. It’s got a strange flavor to it. I don’t really think I can put my finger on exactly what it is. It has a very round flavor, which I realize doesn’t make the most amount of sense, but still. It hits me all around the sides of my mouth instead of just right straight-forward on my tongue.

As I say, it has berry flavors to it, but there’s something else in that mix that’s weirding out my sense of taste. Something maybe a bit more citrus-y to it? A hint of pineapple thrown in? It’s hard to say. I think if I did have some Voltage here, I’d definitely be liking that one much more.
And, I mean, it’s not that the flavor is bad. I’m not spitting it out or anything, and I’ll finish off the other couple of cans I’ve got, but this is a limited edition flavor that I’m not going to be getting a couple 12-packs of to save for later like I’ve done with some other Dews. In the realm of Dew flavors, where Code Red is at the top, followed by Maui Burst, and on down, this would definitely be near the bottom of the regular Dew flavors before I got into the Kickstarts and Game Fuels. Oh well.
Ooof. A burp just now, yeah, there’s some berry flavors and a little more thrown in. And it’s more an aftertaste than a taste.
If you see this while you’re on one of your emergency runs to the grocery store, I wouldn’t say to -not- pick it up. I feel that limited edition things should be given a shot just because of the novelty of them. But if you’re a raspberry-soda fan, I might suggest just getting some Voltage and calling it good.
