The owner of Klocker’s Tavern, which is next door to Barfield’s, told News13 Wednesday morning that Barfield’s was closed and that his bar was closing when the shooting happened. He said he heard fighting outside and then gunshots.
He also said Lawhorn had been banned from Klocker’s but not from Barfields.
A News13 reporter talked to Rachel Barfield, the owner of Barfield’s restaurant, on Thursday, and she disputed claims that the shooting happened on the property at her business. She also said some of the bar’s employees knew the victims and that a benefit is planned for Friday night at the bar.
Lawhorn also has a criminal past, including an arrest after a reported armed robbery in November 2018 near Myrtle Beach. Lawhorn, who was 19 at the time, was among three adults and three juveniles arrested in the incident.
There have been multiple incidents of violence throughout the years in the area near where Wednesday morning’s shooting happened.
One person went to the hospital with a gunshot wound in January after a “large fight” and shooting in the area between Barfield’s and Klocker’s Tavern, according to Horry County police. The person’s injuries were not life-threatening.

One person was hurt by glass after a shooting at Klockers in June 2022, and in June 2018, the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office filed a petition to close Klocker’s, the Remedies Bar and Grill and Audry’s Lounge for at least a year because of multiple shootings and public-nuisance complaints.
Two of the shootings happened at Audry’s Lounge and were deadly. Larry Wilson Jr. died after being shot three times in the chest on March 24, 2018, and Ickel T. Stanley was shot to death during a fight on July 30, 2015.
In July 2019, Klocker’s and Remedies were allowed to reopen early after having been declared a nuisance business and placed on probation for two years. The agreement with the solicitor’s office allowed the bars to reopen with shorter hours and new safety features in place.
The owner of Salon 314, around the corner from the bar, said she didn’t feel unsafe when she moved her business there two years ago.
“Now that this has happened again, cause the last time it happened I was out on maternity leave, so I wasn’t really here the last incident,” Lashara Holmes said. “So, now that it’s happened this time, I’m like, OK, this is more of a prominent thing, so now I’m starting to get a little worried.”
Holmes added that incidents like these are why she only operates until 5 p.m.
No additional information about Wednesday morning’s shooting was immediately available. Count on News13 for updates.
