What Is A Handkerchief Head Negro

Some television shows celebrate their 200th episode. Generally T-V programs will review and/ or reflect on shows past, when celebrating the 200th show. That’s very appropriate for television, and I suppose I could touch on a few of my favorite blogs over the past five years, but I believe speaking on public figures that are anti-FUNK or just plain FUNKED UP may be more intriguing.

I want to take this time for my 200th blog, to talk about the ever prevailing and unceasing presence of the “Handkerchief Head.” According to the “Urban Dictionary,” a Handkerchief Head is: “An African-American or black person who does not identify with black people and identifies with white people, or those outside of their race, for their own personal gain or because they are afraid of them. Someone that influences people of high stature for monetary or political elevation, while putting the majority of people within their own race at risk.” This denotes the handkerchief worn usually by females (e.g. the now Monsanto character “Aunt Jemima” before her perm) who were “house” slaves. It is a pejorative term, as house slaves were thought of as sell outs and/ or “Uncle Toms,” who kissed up to whites for added privileges. “That handkerchief head is mowing his boss’ yard again so that he can be off on weekends.”

Supreme Court “Justice” Clarence Thomas is a handkerchief head because he is a black person that does not identify with, or help black people and only identify or acknowledges white people, for their attributes. Thomas revealed himself years ago, and recently added insult to injury, when he joined Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Samuel Alito, and author Chief Justice John Roberts, striking down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act. The provision of the landmark civil rights law designated, which parts of the country must have changes to their voting laws, cleared by the federal government or in federal court. John Roberts remarked, “things have changed dramatically” in the South in the nearly 50 years since the Voting Rights Act was signed in 1965, according to the Huffington Post. The Voting Rights Act has recently been used to block a voter ID law in Texas and delay the implementation of another in South Carolina. Both states are no longer subject to the preclearance requirement because of the court’s ruling.

The top current “Handkerchief Heads” of the moment, are FOX News correspondent Lauren Green, and “Maddy” better known as Juror B29 from the George Zimmerman trial.

From the FOX News website: Lauren Green serves as a religion correspondent for FOX News Channel’s (FNC). Prior to this, Green served as a news anchor for “FOX & Friends,” where she provided daily news updates for the irreverent morning program. Prior to joining FNC in 1996, Green served as a weekend news anchor and correspondent at WBBM-TV (CBS) in Chicago. From 1988 to 1993, she was a general assignment reporter at KSTP-TV (ABC) in St. Paul, Minnesota. Outside of her career at FNC, Green is well known as a concert pianist with a degree in piano performance from The University of Minnesota. She has interviewed some of the most prominent people in the classical music world including Placido Domingo, Pierre Boulez, Joshua Bell and has covered such events as the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and opening night of The Metropolitan Opera.

In her recent interview where she was insistent about disputing Scholar Reza Aslan, she said “You’re a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?” Aslan responded, “To be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades, who also just happens to be a Muslim.” Here’s a link to the FOX interview that has since gone viral.

Post the interview, Aslan spoke to CNN talk show host Piers Morgan, saying that he felt “kind of embarrassed” because “there’s nothing more distasteful than an academic having to trot out his credentials. You really come off as a jerk when you do that. It was very hard not to keep mentioning that I’m actually qualified to write this book, so let’s talk about the book instead.” Here’s a clip from Morgan’s show ala the Huffington Post, where you can also access an excerpt from Aslan’s new book, “Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/29/reza-aslan-piers-morgan_n_3673636.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009

“Maddy” — the only minority on the all-female jury that voted to acquit George Zimmerman — post the trial said that Zimmerman “got away with murder” for killing Trayvon Martin. In more than one televised interview, she says she feels she owes an apology to Martin’s parents, and did so on ABC in an interview with Robin Roberts — Far too little, far, far too late. “You can’t put the man in jail even though in our hearts we felt he was guilty,” said the woman who was identified only as Juror B29 during the trial. “But we had to grab our hearts and put it aside and look at the evidence.” She said the jury was following Florida law and the evidence, she said, did not prove murder. Here’s that clip: http://abcnews.go.com/US/george-zimmerman-juror-murder/story?id=19770659

Dare I say all black FOX news correspondents are “Handkerchief Heads”? I believe fellow folks that assess handkerchief heads would agree. I say this because they don’t have the brains or balls enough to know, that if they had any self respect worth acknowledging, they wouldn’t work for FOX News. I say that, based on the network’s basic political position that dismisses the entire black community, no matter what their political or religious position. The network has proven time and time again that it’s culturally bias. Here are other FOX hankies, with their FOX written credentials, so you know who they are when you see them.

Harris Faulkner is currently the anchor of “Fox Report Weekend,” airing Saturday and Sunday from 7-8 p.m. ET. Faulkner is also a breaking news anchor appearing on “Happening Now,” weekdays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. ET. Faulkner joined FNC in 2005 as a correspondent and prime-time news break anchor. Prior to joining FNC, she served as correspondent for “A Current Affair.” In 2005, Faulkner served as a substitute host for “The Nancy Grace Show” on CNN Headline News. Prior to that she worked as the primary evening anchor on KSTP-TV and also hosted “The Harris Faulkner Show” on FM107 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

UPDATE – 6/ 2/ 15… Although Justice Clarence Thomas disagreed with his fellow constituents in the case of Anthony Elonis from Pennsylvania, it doesn’t dismiss him from being at the top of this list. Thomas stood alone in a case, where a man was exonerated, from threatening his ex-wife on social media stating: “Our job is to decide questions, not create them… Given the majority’s ostensible concern for protecting innocent actors, one would have expected it to announce a clear rule — any clear rule. Its failure to do so reveals the fractured foundation upon which today’s decision rests.” For more on this, click here… http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/02/us/supreme-court-rules-in-anthony-elonis-online-threats-case.html?_r=0

Today’s update is for the purpose of the aforementioned, as well as to add yet another to this list. There’s a new “Handkerchief Head” in town, and his name is Dr. Ben Carson. Now to be completely honest, objective and evaluate without prejudice, I have to say that I do not totally disagree with Dr. Carson on aspects of his assessments regarding the state of our nation. Having said that, it doesn’t excuse or dismiss his actions, that make him a handkerchief head (refer to definition at the beginning of this blog). On May 5th, Ben Carson announced that he is running for President, as a member of the Republican party. Prior to now I haven’t brought politics into what makes one a handkerchief head, but history has shown us that not since Abraham Lincoln, has a Republican given a damn about people of color. The primary objective of the Republican party, as long as I’ve been alive, has always been about the priorities of the dominant ruling class, a.k.a. the one percent. Until the actions of the G.O.P. change, anyone who supports the party is questionable, although I don’t base my relationships and friendships on a person’s political preference.

My musical hero, “The Godfather of Soul,” the quintessential pioneer of FUNK James Brown supported President Richard Nixon. This was a “black stain” on his resume as a black man, but at the same time he encouraged an entire race of people with his song, “Say It Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud.” Being a Republican, and running for POTUS AS a Republican, are two totally different things. In short, if you want to express that you’re a person for the true rights and advancement of all people, based on the actions of political parties for the past 50 years, you choose the Democratic party or go as an Independent. This is not opinion, it’s simply a matter of fact, if you’ve been paying attention. Below is Carson’s speech from the 2013 “Prayer Breakfast,” where he was honored, and President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were in attendance. In very eloquent and respectful fashion, Carson expressed in no uncertain terms, that he was not in agreement with how the POTUS has handled his position in the White House.

He was later praised and glorified by FOX News…
