What Is A Pyrometer Gauge

1500F Pyrometer EGT Gauge VS 2400F Pyrometer EGT Gauge

Choose between GlowShift’s 1500F version which reads from 0 – 1500° Fahrenheit and the 2400F version which reads from 0 – 2400° Fahrenheit. A 1500° Fahrenheit EGT Gauge can be used in most turbo diesel trucks, including trucks that put more stress on their engine and generate higher exhaust gas temperatures. A 2400° Fahrenheit EGT Gauge is a better fit for cars and trucks that create excessively high exhaust gas temperatures. That would include race truck applications and big turbo builds that use a lot of fuel. Turbocharged cars can also use a 2400° Pyrometer digital or analog gauge since the turbo runs off of the exhaust. Another difference between the two is that the 2400° EGT Gauge can also be used for gas applications.

Why Are EGT Pyrometer Gauges Important?

Analog and digital Pyrometer EGT Gauges act as an indicator of how hot the exhaust gases are as they exit the combustion chamber, and keep you aware of the amount of afterburning that is occurring in the exhaust manifold. If your engine is running too hot, the resulting engine impact can be serious and may include melted pistons, cracked heads, destruction of the turbo, and engine failure. An EGT Gauge will keep you alerted to temperature fluctuations so you can avoid the negative consequences of excessively high exhaust gas temperatures.

Additionally, you’ll receive a Gauge Visor, Mounting Hardware, and the provided Installation Instructions will walk you through the entire process step by step.

Benefits of a GlowShift EGT Gauge

Adding an Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge for diesel and gas vehicles offers benefits such as the prevention of spark plug fouling, operation of your vehicle at peak EGT, and the guarantee of peak engine performance at higher speeds. Installing a Pyrometer digital or analog Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge allows you to spot a problem sooner to avoid engine damage as well. We recommend that diesel trucks used exclusively for towing or that have been modified for enhanced performance use the 1500°F Pyrometer Diesel Gauge. The 2200° and 2400° Fahrenheit versions are recommended for cars and trucks with a gas engine.
