Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery just dropped a brand new update, with more fun side missions and challenges players. Now players have the opportunity to participate in activities such as playing Gobstones or enjoying a meal together. These actions don’t cost any energy but can help level up your relationships with NPCs like Rowan and Penny Nymphadora Tonks and more. While we all got a taste of Gobstones and other encounters in Year One, the new challenges require players to rely on their knowledge of the characters in the game as well as lore from the broader Harry Potter universe.

As we unlock more challenges, we’ll continue to update this post. Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery Update Guide: How Gobstones and Share a Meal Side Missions Work

How Do I Find Side Missions/Encounters? How Often Can I Play?

Both playing Gobstones and Sharing a Meal with a Friend both work in a similar fashion. The main difference is where the encounters take place. For Gobstones, you’ll need to head to the Courtyard and look for an icon that shows a handshake, then tap on the option to begin the encounter. For Sharing a Meal, you’ll need to head to the Great Hall. Additionally, you can check for side encounters in the menu with the checklist icon on the left-hand side of the game screen. From what we can tell, you can participate in a given Encounter once every 16 hours. This equals roughly once or twice a day per encounter.

How Do The New Encounters Work?

Each of these new encounters requires players to spend a set number of coins — them amount varies from about 30 -75 coins. The object of the encounter is to gain at least one diamond within a given number of turns. At the beginning of the encounter, you will choose a friend from a list of available choices — I usually go with whichever one is at a lower friendship level. As you answer questions in the encounter, you’ll gain or lose points depending on the answer you choose.

Before you begin the encounter, you’ll see a list of recommended courage, empathy and knowledge levels. Don’t worry though. You can still participate even if you aren’t at the recommended levels. You’ll just have to work harder to choose the best answers. If you aren’t at the recommended level in a specific area and you choose an answer that matches that skill type, you’ll lose a small number of points due to lacking experience. On the flip side, if your experience level is higher than necessary, you can gain bonus points. As long as you fill in at least once diamond within the given number of turns, you win the encounter and will be awarded extra friendship points, exp increase, and other perks. You earn roughly three friendship points for each diamond so participating in these encounters can both fun and helpful for leveling up your relationship.

As mentioned before, the new update has just rolled out, so this list is by no means comprehensive. We’ll continue to add the best answers we’ve found as we complete more encounters. Each friend you have encounters with has his or her own specific set of questions that he or she will ask. As we unlock new characters we’ll continue to add encounter questions and answers, with the newest at the top of the list.
