Olympiads
The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is a competitive examination that is open to secondary school students from all over the world. The IJSO test gives equal weightage to all the fundamental science disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics). IJSO is an esteemed annual science competition that brings together talented young minds from around the world. It serves as a platform for students in the age group of 15 years and below to showcase their scientific knowledge, problem-solving skills, and passion for learning. Let us delve into the world of IJSO, exploring its objectives, format, and the benefits it offers to participants.

Objective of IJSO
The primary objective of the IJSO is to promote scientific education and foster an interest in science among young students. By encouraging participants to think critically and solve complex problems, the competition aims to nurture their scientific thinking abilities and ignite their curiosity about the world around them. IJSO also strives to promote international cooperation and understanding by bringing together students from different cultural backgrounds.
IJSO Eligibility Criteria
The following are the requirements that must be fulfilled for applicants to be eligible for IJSO. The students would be disqualified from the IJSO 2023 if these standards are not satisfied.
Age Criteria: Applicants must be under the age of 15.
Nationality: The applicant must hold a current passport from the relevant country or be registered for at least one academic year in that country’s educational system.
Other Requirements:

IJSO Exam Pattern: Stages The International Junior Science Olympiad exam follows a structured pattern consisting of five stages
Stage I: National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS)
The NSEJS serves as the primary phase of student selection for the Junior Science Olympiad Program. It is conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). The top 300 students from this stage qualify for the next round.
Stage II: Indian National Junior Science Olympiad (INJSO)
HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education) organizes the INJSO at approximately 15 centers across the country. The syllabus for this stage aligns with that of NSEJS, and the top 35 students proceed to the next round.
Stage III: Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC) in Junior Science
The OCSC in Junior Science, a 2-3 week camp, is conducted by HBCSE. Only students who have been chosen from the Stage II (INJSO) merit list are eligible to take part. No other criteria or provisions are considered during the selection process. The camp comprises various theoretical and experimental assessments.
Stage IV: Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) for IJSO
At this stage, a selected team of six students undergoes an intensive training program in both theoretical and experimental aspects at HBCSE. The top six students on the merit list are honored as special merit awardees and receive books and cash worth Rs. 5000.

Benefits of Participating in IJSO Participating in the IJSO offers numerous benefits for young science enthusiasts:
Global Exposure: The IJSO brings together students from various countries, providing a unique opportunity to interact with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds. It promotes global understanding and encourages participants to learn from one another.
Academic Growth: The rigorous preparation required for the IJSO expands participants’ scientific knowledge and strengthens their understanding of core concepts in physics, chemistry, and biology. It also enhances their problem-solving and analytical skills.
Confidence Building: The IJSO challenges participants to step out of their comfort zones and tackle complex scientific problems. As they overcome these challenges, participants gain confidence in their abilities and develop a growth mindset.
Networking and Collaboration: The IJSO creates a network of young scientists from around the world. Participants have the opportunity to build connections with like-minded individuals, fostering potential collaborations and lifelong friendships.
Recognition and Scholarships: The IJSO serves as a platform for recognition and appreciation of participants’ scientific talents. Outstanding performers may receive medals, certificates, and scholarships, which can open doors to further education and research opportunities.
