How can you tell if your church sees the baptism of the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of Kundalini? These seven signs will help you discern the difference.
Since the “latter rain” (Joel 2:23, Hosea 6:3) fell on the world in the 19th & 20th centuries, there has been a division about the legitimacy of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Some believe that the Holy Spirit stopped His work within the 1st-century church as He was only meant to provide help to establish the foundation, while others believe that the Holy Spirit is still present but has been counterfeited by demons masquerading as the Holy Spirit, one of which is called the spirit of Kundalini/Sanskrit. While the former will not be addressed in this post, the latter will be discussed, beginning with a definition of the spirit of Kundalini.
My experiences with the Kundalini Spirit
What is Kundalini?
Kundalini (Sanskrit: कुण्डलिनी kuṇḍalinī, “coiled one”), in Hinduism, refers to a form of divine energy (or shakti) said to be located at the base of the spine (Muladhara). It was originally an important concept in Śaiva Tantra. It was seen as a force or power associated with the divine feminine, cultivated and awakened through tantric practice, which could lead to spiritual liberation. Kuṇḍalinī is associated with Paradevi or Adi Parashakti, the supreme being in Shaktism, and with the goddesses Bhairavi and Kubjika.[1][2] The term and associated practices were adopted into Hatha yoga in the 11th century[3] and other forms of Hinduism, as well as modern spirituality and New age, thought. Christians are talking about the Kundalini spirit and the deception that is going on in Pentecostal/Charismatic churches. While this IS a problem within many churches, I can tell you there IS a difference between the ACTUAL baptism of the Holy Spirit and the Kundalini spirit, as I have had direct experience with Kundalini. The differences between the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the Kundalini spirit are these:
- The baptism of the Holy Spirit WILL ALWAYS be brought about through the Word of God (Bible) and the praise of Jesus Christ. The Kundalini spirit “happens.”
- The baptism of the Holy Spirit NEVER leaves you out of control while the Kundalini spirit takes control.
- The baptism of the Holy Spirit WILL NEVER get in the way of the Word of God. The Kundalini spirit WILL ALWAYS divert people from the Word of God.
- The baptism of the Holy Spirit WILL ALWAYS be praising Jesus Christ. The Kundalini spirit WILL ALWAYS be praising god/self. The SPECIFIC praising of Jesus Christ is to differentiate the Holy Spirit from false spirits.
- The baptism of the Holy Spirit WILL ALWAYS adhere to order within corporate worship. The Kundalini spirit WILL NEVER comply with any order, only experience.
- The baptism of the Holy Spirit WILL ALWAYS thank the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. The Kundalini spirit will not.
- The baptism of the Holy Spirit will utter prophecy/scripture that will be 100% in line with scripture. The Kundalini spirit will not try to get people away from the Bible and into a very close doctrine but not the actual Word of God.
We should never forget John, who wrote: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming and is now already in the world.” ~1 John 4:1-3

The Differences Between The Holy Spirit & Demon Spirit Guides
- The Holy Spirit IS God (Matthew 29:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14). He has all the attributes of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit has unlimited power and knowledge. Demon spirit guides are created beings with limited power and knowledge. While their powers and knowledge are above humans, it’s limited.
- The Holy Spirit values our individuality. He doesn’t try to take over our personality (Acts 4:8). Demon spirit guides hate humanity. They will take over and usurp our personality and replace it with their own.
- The Holy Spirit wants us to be in control & responsible for our actions. He wants us to work with Him (Philippians 2:13). Demons want total control. They will render the person unconscious so they can do what they want.
- The Holy Spirit is gentle (Matthew 11:29). He is so gentle that you can’t tell the difference between what is you and what is Him. Demons are harsh. Because they want total control, you can always tell the difference between you and them. Demon spirit guides will always feel like an entity, separate from their conscious mind.
- The Holy Spirit is Holy and Pure (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). He will always bring purity into the lives of a Christians. He gives us the power to overcome sin. Demons are corrupt. They will always nudge us little by little toward sin. Demons usually will get you into sexual immorality and the occult and increase your desire to contact the spiritual realm.
- The Holy Spirit always glorifies Jesus (John 16:13-14). He brings humility to the person He indwells. Demons hate Jesus. They always glorify the person they indwell. Pride is the foundational character of demons, and that pride transfers to the person they indwell.
- The Holy Spirit never blanks out our minds. He puts thoughts into our minds so that we can be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29). The Holy Spirit wants us to take our thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5). He wants us to “will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). The Holy Spirit wants us to actively corporate with Him. The Holy Spirit is so powerful that He can overwrite our minds at any time. We don’t have to blank out our minds to hear from Him. Demons will blank out our minds. Demons work best when we let them take over. This is evident in meditation, where the person is urged to “clear their mind.” Demons have difficulty controlling an active mind. They always encourage passivity so they can take control. Think about people who get drunk or take drugs. They are in danger of being taken over by demons.
- The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins, BUT His conviction is non-destructive (John 16:8-9). He always leads the person toward repentance, forgiveness, redemption, and peace. Demons do one of two things; they will either justify a person’s sin(s) or bring crushing guilt and accusation, so the person doesn’t believe they can see redemption. Demonic guilt always brings the message, “you cannot be forgiven.”
- The Holy Spirit will never bring messages that contradict God’s Word (Bible – John 16:13-14). Demons will twist God’s Word so that sin is justified.
- The Holy Spirit cannot be controlled. He functions how and when He pleases (John 3:8, 1 Corinthians 12:6-7,11). We are the servants, and He is the master. Demons lie to the person they indwell. Demons will make the person believe that demons will come when called, heal when the person wants, prophesy when the person wants, see into the spirit realm when the person wants, etc. Demons love rituals and routines. The fake gifts of demons are counter to the true gifts of the Holy Spirit and can be summoned at will. Be cautious about seeking individuals who are professed healers or prophets. Watch them to see if they glorify themselves or Jesus.
- The Holy Spirit Demands that we walk in faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7) or emotions. The Holy Spirit doesn’t satisfy carnal emotional rewards. Because of this, the Holy Spirit rarely lets us see into the spirit world. If He does, it’s by His pleasure and not by our will or control. Demons love to manipulate human emotions. Demons will frequently give us what we want in the spirit world so we can relish emotional extremes. This is a tactic for decreasing our faith. “For a wicked and adulterous generation seeks after signs” (Matthew 16:4). People with demons frequently have visions and supernatural experiences.
- You can grieve the Holy Spirit by disobeying Him (Ephesians 4:30). When we disobey Him, the Holy Spirit withdraws and does not function in our lives. The Holy Spirit NEVER goes against our free will. God doesn’t want mindless machines. Demons bring punishment if we disobey them. They will quickly take control or punish you until you allow them to control you. Demons love mindless machines.
- The Holy Spirit loves us (John 3:16). He desires to bring us into the presence of God. Demons hate us. They desire to bring us death and destruction and to keep us from the presence of God.
- Jesus loves us (God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit being one), and He shed His blood for us on the cross to pay for our sins so we can be in right standing in the eyes of God (John 3:16). Demons don’t love us and demand that we shed our blood for them. In the occult world, demons demand blood so that Satan can “bless them.” In the Christian world, demons demand rigid rituals and legalism so that “god can bless them.”
- Jesus paid the price for sins once and for all (1 Peter 3:18). Demons always demand more and more sacrifices. They always need more.
- The Holy Spirit gives the desire to read the Bible (John 17:17-18). Demons want you to stay away from the Bible.
- The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the scriptures (John 14:26, 1 Corinthians 2:6-16). Demons bring confusion. They block a person from understanding the scriptures. God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33).
- The Holy Spirit draws us to pray (Acts 6:1-4). Demons hinder prayer by any means necessary.
- The Holy Spirit is not a showoff (Matthew 11:29). Demons love to show off.
- When the Holy Spirit transports a person in spirit, He takes good care of the body (Revelation 4:1-2, 2 Corinthians 12:2-3. When a person astral-projects, the demon couldn’t care less about the person’s body. Astral projection take a toll on the body. People who practice astral projection usually have early grey hair.
- The Holy Spirit is a Spirit of truth (John 16:13). He never lies. Demons always lie, and so are the people they indwell.
- The Holy Spirit demands that we actively learn (Joshua 1:8, Psalms 119:105, 2 Timothy 3:16-17). He’s not a “storage unit” where we can take out knowledge of things independent of our minds. Demons are willing to be information storage units so that the indwelt person doesn’t need to learn information with their minds. When a person who has demons indwelling them accepts Jesus. All information is lost once the demon spirit guide is kicked out.
- Many Christians want the Holy Spirit to take control, so they (the Christians) don’t know what they are doing. Demons always want to take control. The Holy Spirit wants our active, conscious corporation. Anytime we have given up control of ourselves, we allow demons to come in and take control. Demons love to take over and control the people they indwell.
- The Holy Spirit is not a fortune teller; neither does He give us divination ability (Matthew 6:34). A common tactic of demons is to give words of knowledge. Demons also give individual prophecies, which is fortune telling. Prophecy is usually for the whole body of Christ (1 Corinthians 14:5) and rarely for individuals and not frequently. Even if demons give prophecy or words of knowledge that is true, they will always lead a person away from God (Deuteronomy 13:1-5).
Update on July 10, 2022
Between the time of my Salvation (2008) and my water baptism (June 2015), the counterfeit spirit had me fooled until I cast it out in Jesus’ Name. It was only after the 2015 baptism that I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, which was kept in line with Acts 2:38.
