Potassium lactate is the potassium salt of L(+)-lactic acid, obtained by neutralisation of the acid of natural origin with a high purity potassium source. Potassium lactate is produced naturally by living organisms as a by-product of the glycolysis. Potassium lactate is a safe preservative with a high water holding capacity and buffering properties for food and personal care uses. As an alternative to sodium lactate, it addresses the concerns of health organisations and consumers about reducing sodium intake.

Jungbunzlauer potassium L(+)-lactate is a colourless to yellowish, nearly odourless aqueous solution with a mild salty taste. This solution is stable under normal storage conditions. Potassium lactate is non-toxic to humans and the environment and is readily biodegradable.

Properties • Liquid • Colourless to yellowish • Nearly odourless • Mild salty taste • Bacteriostatic • Buffering • High water holding capacity • Sodium free • Potassium source • Chemically, physically and microbiologically stable • Non-toxic • Readily biodegradable

Potassium lactate is a potassium salt of lactic acid. In chemistry, a salt is a compound that forms when an acid and base react to neutralize one another.

Purpose Potassium lactate is used to adjust acidity. Potassium lactate is also used as preservative in cooked and/or cured meat and poultry products. Potassium lactate is often used as a replacement for sodium lactate when there is a need to reduce the amount sodium.

Potassium lactate is added to food all over the world. Potassium lactate is an approved food additive in Canada, the USA, Europe and Australia.

Description: Potassium lactate is a clear odorless liquid. Potassium lactate is produced by by neutralizing lactic acid with a potassium compound. Lactic acid is commonly found in dairy products such as yogurt, kombucha and some cottage cheeses. However, when produced industrially, lactic acid is formed through fermentation. Bacteria convert glucose and sucrose to lactic acid.

An interesting fact is that similar bacteria live in our mouths. The lactic acid produced by these bacteria is what causes cavities in our teeth.

Extraction: Potassium lactate is a potassium salt of lactic acid obtained from the bacterial synthesis of starch and molasses.

Benefits: Potassium lactate acts as an exfoliant and moisturising agent, as well as regulating the pH.

Potassium Lactate is the potassium salt of Lactic Acid which is usually derived from plants such as beets but can be derived from whey (milk) and other animal products. Lactic Acid is used in detergents, cosmetics, foods including many products made by bacterial fermentation, and as a preservative.
