What Is Tomato Extract

The humble tomato is more than just the perfect addition to a salad, it’s the perfect ingredient for our new daily face sunscreen, Good Morning SPF 50 (Coming Soon!). We know, it sounds a little strange, but hear us out.

Tomatoes contain Carotenoids. Carotenoids appear in nature to help protect plants and fruit from excess UV radiation (the sun) and environmental damage (pollution). They also appear naturally in our skin playing the same role. This is achieved through their amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, protecting from free radical damage (oxidative stress), keeping the skin looking youthful.

However, environmental pollution and UV radiation both reduce Carotenoids in the skin, by producing free radicals that fight your skin’s natural protection.

What if we could help replace these Carotenoids as part of your daily skin care?

Tomatoes are our major source of dietary Carotenoids, especially the powerful antioxidant Lycopene.

The benefits of Tomato Extract in skin care has been proven in many studies, including:

  • Reducing fine lines, wrinkles and signs of sun damage
  • Reducing skin pigmentation and blemishes (skin lightening)
  • Reducing redness

Visible benefits (if used regularly) include:

  • Brightening and lightening of skin tone
  • Reduced signs of skin aging, such as fine lines and pigment damage
  • Younger and healthier looking skin
  • Reduction and clearing of acne

That’s not all! Our new Good Morning SPF 50 Daily Face Sunscreen Lotion is packed full of other skin-loving goodies, such as:

Hyaluronic Acid is like a big drink of water for your skin. This amazing molecule has the ability to hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water. It attracts and holds onto moisture in skin cells making your skin look and feel more hydrated and plump. Hydrated skin can reduce the appearance of wrinkles making the skin appear smoother.

Harvested from the Simmondsia Chinensis plant, Jojoba contains Vitamin E and acts as an antioxidant to ward off free radical damage. Jojoba is an amazing oil that is very similar to our own, naturally produced skin oils, designed to protect and moisturise. It is high in omega fatty acids 6 and 9, known for their skin protection abilities. It is highly moisturising and works to seal your skin with a protective barrier to keep it from losing moisture.

An excellent emollient, Squalane (not to be mistaken for Squalene) is super hydrating and can assist in preventing moisture loss. The antioxidants found in Squalane can also protect the skin against free radicals and skin damage caused by UV rays.

Carnosine is a skin-loving goodie that doesn’t get nearly enough attention in the skincare world. You could say it’s the unsung hero of skincare. It’s known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can assist in preventing and repairing fine lines and early signs of aging. Carnosine is also known for its benefits in infrared/blue light protection, as well as visible light protection. It has “anti-glycation” properties meaning it blocks damaging sugar molecules which bind to, and damage collagen in the skin.
