To proceed in the main plot, you must burn the Erdtree. You have no choice but to set fire to the tree; it’s the only way to reach the last battle. You may either ask Melina to light the tree or light it yourself. You can’t move forward unless you burn the Erdtree.
What happens after burning the Erdtree?
Following the destruction of the Erdtree, the Royal Capital of Leyndell is renamed Leyndell, the Ashen Capital. Most openings and goods get blocked, making it difficult to access the sewers. However, if required, you can still utilize the well located in the lowest area of the Ashen Capital to plunge down into the sewers.
Furthermore, the majority of NPCs in the Roundtable Hold will either vanish or perish. Smith and Roderika are the exceptions. As a result, practically all missions are rendered unavailable.

Things to do before burning the Erdtree
Before you set fire to the Erdtree, make sure you finish any side missions you’re interested in. Completing the other NPC-related questlines is also recommended. After lighting fire to the Erdtree, some NPCs will vanish, locking you out of their questlines.
Before you burn the Erdtree, perform the following:
- Investigate the sewers and the Royal Capital district.
- Complete all of the side missions.
- Obtain the Legendary Spear in the capitol.
- Take the famed Gransax Bolt weapon.
- Finish the Corhyn and Goldmask questline to obtain the Rune of Perfect Order.
- Complete the questline for Dung Eater.
What to do after burning the Erdtree in Elden Ring
You’ll be transferred to Crumbling Farum Azul after burning the Erdtree. This is a terrifying area, complete with flying dragons and tornadoes. It would help if you eliminated the boss after the Malikth area. After that, the game will transfer you to the Ashen Capital, where you must battle the last boss.
