This blog post is dedicated to all of those young guys who have been asked to leave their parent’s, or other relatives home. Although this can feel scary, maybe even devastating, it can also be a good thing. Remember, the best things in life don’t come without a struggle. Also, remember that just because your parents have asked you to leave, it doesn’t mean they don’t love you. They truly want the best for you and realize that only by going out on your own will you face the struggles that will build you into the adult you are meant to be.
Here’s a few things to remember:
1. Don’t panic. You have options. They might not be the most desirable options, but you have options.

2. Make a list of your options. Evaluate them and choose the best one for now. Remember, nothing has to be permanent, these changes can be temporary.

3. Work to get where you want to be. If your new living situation is not the optimal place to be, work to change it. Remember, if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got!
4. Try. Try new things. Meet new people. Apply for new jobs and seek new opportunities. By trying, you will call out strengths you didn’t know you had. Sure, it may be uncomfortable at times, but only when you extend beyond your comfort zone will you realize what you do and don’t like.
5. Don’t give up. Keep pushing through. Think of when you learned how to ride a bike. No one enjoys falling down on the concrete and skinning up their knees! But was it worth it? Did you learn what to do and what not to do by falling down? Were you glad you stuck with it and now can enjoy the rush of wind through your hair as you cruise around on your bike? Of course!!

6. Enjoy the small things. Finding .50 cents in your couch can be a win (laundromats still take quarters!). A humble meal successfully made, a nice conversation with an interesting person, a small raise at work. Its a combination of the small things we experience and do that contribute to the sum of our happiness. These little scores can all add to a positive and healthy attitude if you want. Its up to you, so look for the small wins in life 😉
